oh, the horror - ramones for kids

Seriously, whenever we have a gathering of their peers at my house, it's all can can to to stop myself from drop kicking the little boys into next week. Seems like they're ALL little a holes. :wideyed: I feel like if I had been such a little jerk my father would have taken me out and tried again with one that wasn't broken.
That's a stinging indictment of who you choose to hang out with, bruh. ;)

There is no reason "kids" can't just listen to the Ramones as they are. The music is energetic and upbeat. They don't swear a lot (if at all) and the lyrics are usually pretty funny.
Just play them old Ramones CDs.
That's what I did with my now fifteen-year-old daughter. She loves singing Dee Dee's backing vocals on I Don't Care and What's Your Game!

I once walked into my son's preschool and heard the sounds of xylophone Ring of Fire. It turns out they had a whole CD of xylophone Johnny Cash.

But a couple years later at a different preschool with a different kid, they beat that. Xylophone...Fat Bottomed Girls??!!??

I told The girl to search the name on YouTube. You get the Freddie Mercury suspenders without a shirt version that way.

I don't get making new versions of the Godfathers of Punk songs either. There are a multitude of songs you could pick from the Ramones catalog that would be ok for children.
We need a Jack Black in every school:

So as terrible an idea as DEV2.0 is, the cover wasn't horrible. I've heard far worse.

I am a HUGE fan of the Rockabye Baby series. I have a ton of it and we had it playing when my wife gave birth to both kids and post-natal. The best part was that it would be chiming away in the background and all the sudden someone would stop and say "Is that Enter Sandman?"

I don't find any of these things offensive. They listened to the baby music when they were babies, now they listen to the real thing. My 3 & 5 year olds run around the house singing AC/DC's TNT as loud as they can, and they also like Wolfmother's Victorious. But they also like The Beatles, Weird Al, the Star Wars soundtracks and Jim Croce. I say that whatever gets them excited about music is what they should listen to.

Hell - this was one of my favs as a kid:

I listen to it now and man alive, it's a HORRIBLE cover of that song. Still love the song, though, so it did it's job.

come to think of it, i dislike the concept of changing a song so it's "for kids". it tends to mean, among other things, removing any hint of sincerity or singing skill even though the kids singing it are usually pros, but they have them sing so it deliberately sounds less skilled. it also sometimes means having children sing songs that they don't understand at all.

btw, babies and children love music without dumbing it down.

i believe that if you love the ramones and your kids don't, you should respect their preferences rather than adding kids to the mix hoping that'll make them identify and like what you like. but hey, what do i know?

As far as I'm concerned, even child-focused versions of the Ramones beat most any pop music made today.
Of course it's nowhere near the power of the original but maybe, just maybe, it'll prompt kids (or their parents) to go listen to the originals.
That's gotta be worth something.

And @zontar I love this...currently in bed with a flared-up back injury, painkilkers and anti-imflammatories taken, thiz just fits my mood perfectly!

Yes, trust me...there is much MUCH worse music the kids could be jamming to out there. I've got 4 nieces and nephews under age 7 and believe me you want to kill most of the pop acts today. One of my friends had two little girls who LOVED prog metal or almost anything metal (Periphery, Dream Theater, Animals As Leaders, etc.)...but eventually mom got upset and now they are fed a steady diet of the processed cheese of music (you know, top 40). Since they are kids they don't know any better, so the closest dad can get them to non-pop is playing jazz music when they are in the car.

Fortunately, I had parents who didn't care for new music, in addition to a brother who was 6 years older than me, so I got a lot of the classics and cream of the new stuff under my belt early on. High school was HIGHLY entertaining as that's when the kids started "discovering" music I knew for years and they were getting super pretentious about it. While I was one of the goth kids, I think me and my close buddies were the only ones who even knew who Bauhaus, The Cure, and Joy Division (before they became New Order) were.

I'm all for getting kids into good music or putting their foot in the door somehow. Like the first time I heard "(Smells Like) Teen Spirit" by Nirvana and being blown the F away (I was like 7 or 8), I just hope my kids can have that same kind of moment with some ballsy music.

I'm reminded of the parents who are so proud of their kids for supporting their parents' favorite sports team.
Of course they do, because you've brainwashed them!

Great points all around. My kid loves some music that I think is kind of dumb. He also dances to the sound my espresso maker pump makes, so I try not to look to far into his musical taste.
Having that said, I am 100% stoked that he loses his poopie over this song

If you aren't familiar with splatoon yet, I have a feeling you will be

There was a young guy in my CAD class that had a Ramones shirt on one day & I said, "That's why I thought I'd seen you before, because you look just like Joey." (pointing at his shirt)
The dude is a dead ringer for Joey, tall, lean. Maybe I should have checked if his name is Hyman.
Anyway, he just looked at me with a puzzled look, so I pointed out the name Joey right on his shirt, it's in the freakin' logo!
Nope, not a clue, just thought it looked cool!

It's odd, I get the most comments on my Ramones shirt, except for right after Lemmy died, because everyone commented about his recent passing when I wore my Motörhead shirts.
The Ramones comments are usually from college-age young ladies.

The Misfits logo was even wider mis-used, but I think Glenn nicked that from someplace anyway.

"The Ramones comments are usually from college-age young ladies."

Why where you holding on to this information? I would have bought Ramone's shirst long ago.....
