There is no reason "kids" can't just listen to the Ramones as they are. The music is energetic and upbeat. They don't swear a lot (if at all) and the lyrics are usually pretty funny.
Just play them old Ramones CDs.

This is what I did with mine, starting at a very young age, still in car booster seats thy were!

And let's face it, as weird as it might be, the lyrics in Ramones' songs are far less blush inducing that some of the stuff you hear on pop FM radio stations.
Something has gone terribly wrong with the world when early punk is a safe choice for your kid's listening.

I had the Ramones on eight track in 1977 and had the pleasure of opening for them in 83 or so.My kids listened to punk when they were younger but I think I ruined it for them when i would say I knew those guys,opened for those guys or saw those guys.One kid is an assistant city manager in a chicago suburb and the other is a hippy who sells weed at a medical dispensary in arizona.Maybe I can turn the grandkids into young punks.

I mean, I kinda thought they were fun and quirky to begin with. But I mean, weird Al covered Africa with Weezer, Ave I wasn't too surprised by it.

Great points all around. My kid loves some music that I think is kind of dumb. He also dances to the sound my espresso maker pump makes, so I try not to look to far into his musical taste.
Having that said, I am 100% stoked that he loses his poopie over this song


If you aren't familiar with splatoon yet, I have a feeling you will be

I know i'm like 9 years late, but my 12 year old daughter has been playing bass for a bit. She told me she was trying to learn a song from Splatoon and showed it to me. great bass tone and line. i grabbed her SS stingray and went to the music room with her and I played along with a pick in single coil mode, it was 90% there tonally. Then I grabbed the P bass and it just wasn't the same sound. So I grabbed my Jazz with Lace Man O War pickups, and that was it. I'm happy that this video showed my experience was accurate to the instrument used!

Glad my daughter could pick it out and liked the line. I think I'll try to get her into some MXPX or something now.

This post reminds me of when Motorhead redid their song "You Better Run" for the first SpongeBob SquarePants movie. I was 10 when the movie came out, but it was my first exposure to Motorhead. I wouldn't become a huge Motorhead fan for another 15 years or so. But a seed was planted. Thank you Lemmy (RIP), Phil (RIP), and Mikkey!

Here's the SpongeBob version from 2004. SpongeBob taught me that Motorhead was "tough people" music.

Welcome to getting older. Kids in high school now, weren't even born when 9/11 happened. To them, 1976 May as well be 1876. The Ramones are what their grandparents listened to! Just today while shopping at a supper market, the overhead Muzak played the Cars, R E M and the Cure. Granted, not Ramones level outrage, but Holy Guacamole Batman. With the collapse of the record/ 8-Track/ cassette/ CD industry, bands (or in the case of the Ramones, surviving family members) look for other revenue streams. Sold out has become as passe as punk.

I knew it was the end of the world when I heard Foxy Lady at CVS.

the problem is it'll get kids listening for and identifying with cutesy voices. if the music is something that they'll like, why wouldn't they like it by the original artists?

The kiddie Ramones sounds to me just like the original ones.

When I was a kid I used to put punk and metal on 78 speed so it would sound like The Chipmunks.

It doesn't surprise me to hear any popular music that isn't riddled with overt violence, profanity and/or sexual innuendo get the kid's music treatment.
