come to think of it, i dislike the concept of changing a song so it's "for kids". it tends to mean, among other things, removing any hint of sincerity or singing skill even though the kids singing it are usually pros, but they have them sing so it deliberately sounds less skilled. it also sometimes means having children sing songs that they don't understand at all.
btw, babies and children love music without dumbing it down.
i believe that if you love the ramones and your kids don't, you should respect their preferences rather than adding kids to the mix hoping that'll make them identify and like what you like. but hey, what do i know?
Usually it's only done to songs that children can easily understand to begin with. You don't see any Kids Bop Radiohead or Bjork, but usually top 40 pop with very easy to sing/comprehend lyrics and it's that way for a reason. Pop is generally marketed toward kids to begin with.
