On the Air - First TV Appearance!!

Today I made a brief appearance with my friend and musical partner Whitney as we played an original song, "Good Company", on our local news channel.

It was a good morning, though I was skeptical at first. I brought my trusty GK cab and the soundman told me to leave it off stage. No in-ears, monitors or anything to help me hear myself. As a result, my playing was kept simple without any kind of fills. I tell ya, nothing challenges your knowledge of a song better than silence! But I do believe the song came out better for it.

Shame on a television studio, that routinely hosts local music, and employs a professional sound engineer, for not having some way for musicians to monitor their own sound.

Yeah, previous acts had brought their own amps. As such, I came with mine. Not sure why we were the exception. Anyway, I have zero complaints about the experience. It couldn't have turned out better.

Direct, absolutely no amplification. I usually get a little creative with my playing but so much of that spice is reliant on what I can already hear. But, hey, less is more.

I'm with you. What's strange is he initially told me he would have me covered and even had us sound check with the studio sound system. Why we couldn't use those during the song, I don't know. It was an unpleasant surprise when my first few notes came out silent. But again, it all turned out great.

Fantastic! She's got a great voice and style and I'm impressed with the way you handled the obstacle and still made a strong performance. Those are the kinds of variables that could wreck the performance of a lesser player IMHO.
