Onboard pre with mid sweep ?

Thanks - great info !

I might have to forego sweep mids. I'm now looking at a Bart 5.4AP/918 as they're readily available in
the UK.

I'm unsure about the size of Bart single and stacked pot shafts as the pre doesnt come with knobs

Any ideas ?

Popes are well expensive so maybe not.

The Nords are again, fixed freqs, but you can determine which freqs you desire.

So far, the Audere Classic is looking on top.

No, the nordstrand are not all fixed. They have sweepable mids on some models. I have the 3b-5b. You pull the mid to sweep the mid frequency. From best bass gear..

Sweeps between 1kHz and 400Hz.

3 Band Preamps

The EMG works fine with other pickups. When I use one I cut off the connector on the pickup side, leave the connector on the preamp side, and just solder the pickup wires where the cut-off connector was. Super easy. EMG has really good documentation too, which clearly shows which wires are which. And the EMG is pretty cheap in the US, maybe also where you are?

Exactly.
I don't understand why people would rather make several solder connections than cut two wires on an EMG preamp and only need to make two connections.
In addition to being inexpensive, EMG preamps are fairly transparent at the detents and the switchable corner frequencies for the highs makes them very flexible.
Maybe the problem is that EMG has been around forever and is no longer the flavor of the month.

Someone tell me a little about Nordstrand 3B-5b preamp for an EB MM Stingray

My mistake scuzzy - this one seems to be the pre with the 400hz to 1khz sweep.

3b5b This is looking good

On second thoughts, it looks fixed at 400 hz and 1khz

Yup, i considered that early on, and i suppose buying from the UK ( and Europe, while we havent left yet ) makes sense, but i guess i'm being picky because i fancy a different preamp to anything i already have.

An Audere or even a Demeter, at $200 a pop each, will translate to about $300+ by the time uk Customs get their greedy little fingers on their pound of flesh.
But this is a good price compared to East's Uni Pre. at over £200 ..about $300+

The Pope would be much more, as its 33% more expensive than the other two, so would equate to around $400+

I am a huge fan of the East Retro Deluxe having them in (3) Fender Jazz type basses. I have a Pope in a MAYONES Jabba Bass that is absolutely incredible. I think it is better than the East. I think that although expensive, you will be equally thrilled with the Pope pre. Buy one and done process.

I own it, I use it. It is not fixed, it is on the pull of the potentiometer. It sweeps between those frequencies. I'm not sure why you are in denial of someone who actually owns and uses this exact preamp.

I know some of their models have set mid frequencies that can be adjusted via a capacitor change. The preamps I linked to you earlier are sweepable. They are also less expensive than the EMG, and I find it incredibly versatile.

Are we using the same definition of "sweepable" mids as being semi-parametric. Sweepable mids means that you have one knob that controls the boost or cut level of the mids and another knob that controls the frequency center of the mid control. It lets you continuously sweep the frequency being affected.

I have a three band Nordstrand preamp (3B4b) and I love it but it has a fixed mid that can switch between set frequency centers by pulling up on the mids knob. This is similar to the Aguilar, Bartolini and others but isn't sweepable mids.
