Onboard preamp with 4 knobs and 2 mini toggles?

I have a bass that I am putting new pickups and preamp. The pickups I have already decided on, but the preamp not so much. It has 4 holes for potentiometers and 2 mini toggles. Any preamps out there with that config? Checked Audere which is my go to. and they have the Z switch. I know I can just put a plug in one of the mini toggle holes but that will bug me in a weird way.

Have you considered a low pass filter-based preamp? You could get an Underhill system - e.g. this one with dual switched filters - with that control configuration.

LPFs are a different approach to EQing than the usual shelving/peaking filters, but dang do they make for a flexible preamp. (I've got older Underhill systems in a couple of instruments, and am very happy with them.)

I also have interchangeable regular EQ modules if you don't want to go the filter route. You would still have the switch issue, but could you use them for coil switching?

Nordy 3B preamp, set up with:
- volume, pan, mid, stacked B/T, active passive switch, mid freq switch
- volume (push/pull active passive), pan, mid, stack BT, mid freq switch, SERIES/PARALLEL switch for both pickups (turns both pickups into one big honkin' pickup, in essence)

You can set them up however you want to spec them, but that's 2 ways with a lot of functionality for either.
I've done pretty much every configuration you could imagine with the Nordy 2B or 3B preamps and they always make me happy.

John East Uni Pre, Mike Pope, Underhill, Lusithand, Nordstrand: All have very good reputations. I think Mike Pope's design is used on Foderas, if I'm remembering correctly, and Lusithand has some Q Filter options too. My experience with a drop-in J Retro by John East is really positive.

I have an Audere drop-in Z that came in an Adam Clayton Jazx, and it sounds really good as well.

two switches can be just mid frequency and active/passive. most of preamps can be wired this way, including 3-band Aguilar, Bartolini or Nordstrand

another universal option is a kill/mute switch. or a battery off switch maybe (it will pop loudly, if you're not on mute, I believe)

Go to Best Bass Gear, pick preamps from the drop-down, put in the number of pots and switches for two pick ups and they’ll give you a list of options.

I don’t know what kind of bass it is, or what type of pickups you have (what options they provide), or tone you’re looking for but there are lots of options for this configuration, I have several with 4 pots and 2 switches.

The preamp on this bass of mine popped whenever I switched active to passive. It was pretty annoying. I might just go mid freq and say some coil tapping shenanigans. Active passive is cool but it’s not a deal breaker for me.

Pics of the existing control layout may help. Unless you really need the Z modes, I'd go with a simpler config...few ideas:

* Volume - Blend - Mids - Stacked Treble / Bass. Use the mini-toggles spots for Mid-Freq switch and battery LED...no unused real estate!!

*If you don't care for stacked knobs: Enlarge one of the mini-toggle spots to accommodate an EQ pot. Volume - Blend - Bass - Mids - Treble...stick a 3 way Mid-Freq in the remaining switch spot.
