After reading the instructions on how to use the Morrow cables, I was struck by how wrong-headed this is. Everyone knows that you never use an audio cable in this manner. If you do, the cable will suffer from electron depletion. One should always alternate the direction of signal flow every time the cable is deployed.

As a handy hint, do as I do. All my cables are numbered and each end has a unique mark. I keep a log book where I index the use and signal direction so I make sure that I don't abuse my cables by repeatedly sending a signal in the same direction. Of course, this is an obvious and common method of extending the life of your cables. I'm surprised that nobody has pointed this out. All of my friends use this method. But, even so, electron depletion does remain a factor and the most life you can hope for from any cable is only about one year before you no longer have enough electrons to do the job.

The only exception to this rule are cables that have male and female ends. Unfortunately, these must be replaced every three to six months depending on use. However, I have found that if one consistently uses Brilliant Pebbles with these cables, their life expectancy can be extended as the Brilliant Pebbles seem to mitigate the problem of electron depletion to some degree.

One thing you can do for microphone cables is to make sure you cycle all your cables between passive and active use. By using this method, you can employ phantom power to replenish electrons in the cable. However, this is an imperfect solution because phantom electrons are not of the same quality as real live electrons.

Unfortunately, electron depletion remains a problem that we all have to deal with at some considerable expense. So the argument for expensive cables cannot be justified due to the reasons stated.

But, I state the obvious. Everyone knows this.

This is why I run my cables in enhancement mode. The problem with depletion mode, IMHO, is that conductivity is reduced. And we all know what occurs when that happens...
 
I wonder if maybe this power cord could have TOO much effect on tone? Maybe creates a sterile, too-clean sound? This might be a better choice if the sound you're after is more old-school:

If you let the electron depletion go too far, the loss of electrons causes the copper to chemically alter to tin.
 
the really high end machines that mean the difference between life and death do. but it has nothing to do with performance...it has everything to do with reliability. if a cord shorts out or comes loose, someone could die. not such a big deal for a blood pressure machine so they usually have cords like everything else.

Yes. Hospital Grade connectors have higher grip tension than standard, to minimize the possibility of arcing due to a loose connection. That can be bad news around pure oxygen.
