Personally, I am very found of my Orange AD200, and I think one would serve you quite well.

Ditto. Best rock/blues tone I've ever produced is through this head. Neither versatile nor cheap, but killin'!

what can you tell me about it.

There's nowhere for me to try one
so pretty much I'll be buying it on hope that sounds good.

I don't have an SVT-VR to compare it to, but from what I recall of the '70 SVT I had for a while, it's not as loud, but it does allow you to get a wider range of tones over a wider range of volumes.
