orange amps...

Probably a dumb question, but it's been on my mind a long time... But can you use such a 200 watt amp with a 6 or 8x10? Those things are rated like 900 and 1200 watts or more... Do I need to worry about underpowering? Or does that only apply to ss amps?
i really dont "techincally" if they underpower 6x10 or 8x10 but i used mine from an Ampeg svt810 and it sounded fine to me, but i really dont know if was underpowered. And i'm pretty sure that gwx014 uses an ampeg svt610 with his, he should probably know.

I had to chuckle when I visited Orange' web site and read the factoid that the first orange covered amps were covered with orange vinyl wallpaper.
I find that funny because tolex is really industrial wallcovering...so every tolex covered amp is essentially covered in wallpaper.
The product was actualy called 'Vynide', and produced by 'ICI' it was a standard pattern available in any colour that you wanted, so companys such as Marshall, vox etc chose what they wanted.
The amps from those early were actualy designed and produced at Mattamp, Cliff Cooper had nothing to do with the real work he was a salesman/shopowner (Orange), I doubt if anyone at todays Orange factory know much about what went on in those days.

I actually use a homemade 4x10 with mine. (I'm saving for a Bergantino NV610 though, if I can find one!) I'm not positive about the underpowering thing but Macahan uses an Ampeg SVT 8x10 with his and I've played through 8x10's and it doesn't seem underpowered.

Think about it.. For years people have been using one 300w SVT for TWO 8x10 cabs.

I don't think you're gonna do harm ;)

I play my AD200b with an ampeg 6x10 and it will take you house apart. For real!

If I had my choice on cabs again I would get the NV610 because it is sealed and will fit in the back seat of my car. A sealed 810 would be a nice choice in tone but it is a little too large for me.

Interesting take on the what cabinet to use dilemma:

Sadowsky/Orange/Aguilar sounded good to me if it was indeed what was used for the last Steely Dan release.
i plan on getting rid of my mesa cabs soon and replacing them with aguilar to go with my AD200, sure hope it sounds as good as i think its going to. now i just need a sadowsky to go with it.

Are you still looking at the Aguilar DB810 or something else? I bet it'd sound killer!

I'm currently on a business trip in America's Heartland. I know of a store on my way home that happens to have an AD200B in stock. If I have time, I'll plug that bad boy into either an Ampeg 8x10 or a PB212 (assuming that they haven't sold any of this since my last trip out here a few weeks ago). They had a rather sweet Geddy and a wonderful '57(?) RI P Bass in stock too...should be fun!!!
