Oregon Bassist's Club!

I just got my bass back. I am very impressed with Doug the repairman and the entire store.

First off, I used to live in So Cal and regularly used some of the best set up guys around. Just saying that I know sh!t from shinola when it comes to set ups. Doug definitely has some game. He got my MIM bass playing astonishingly well without going through the expense of a fret level, dress and crown (I didn't want to pay for it and it didn't really need it - there were only two high frets). Doug spot corrected the high frets (no charge), installed a new tusq nut (old one broke on the treble side), set the action and intonation for $69. A seriously good deal IMHO. Oh yeah, it was ready when promised!

Secondly, I just love this store. They claim to match competitors prices. Well, I needed a couple of sets of acoustic strings for this weekend. I printed out a Sweetwater web ad and brought it with me. I show it to the guy at the counter and he chuckles, "that's our regular price, plus if you buy two or more sets, we knock off another 50 cents per set."

I'm a fan. Great store, great people. I love seeing the little guy do well. Many thanks for the recommendation.

Wow, another Newbergian! Whoda thunk it?

Hey Newbergians (and anyone else, for that matter):

My band will be opening for ApologetiX on Sept. 16, 7:00 at
Newberg Christian Church
2315 Villa Rd
Newberg, OR

Just sayin... Love to meet some of you... You can come tell me how much better you are than me.

BTW: ApologetiX is a Christian Parody band that puts on an awesome show and has great chops... Keith Haynie is the bass player.

Since we are promoting shows on the oregon bassists club ill post one up...

Me too... Last week, played the Tuesday Market in Hillsboro and met up with Mike (moka)... Nice guy, and it's cool to put a name with a face!

Friday July 1st - Vino Vixens @ 29th & SE Powell 8:00 PM - This is a 'minimally amplified' dealio where we try and bring an acoustic vibe (though our 'acoustic' guitarist will be skipping due to tendonitis)

Saturday July 2nd - Waterfront Blues Festival 12:45 - 1:30 on the North stage... Right now, I'm being optimistic and believing all of the weather forecaster's lies about how nice it's gonna be :D

I'm gald I got a chance to come out. It was great meeting Robert (rllefebv) and hearing his band, The Troublemakers. If anybody else gets a chance to see these guys, please do. Robert is a really nice guy too. I had a good time talking and getting to know him a little bit.

I think getting out and meeting fellow TB'ers is a great way to build friendships and connections. I always wonder if my former band ever played a venue at the same time with any of your bands.

Hopefully if my new project gets off the ground, I'll have another chance.

I'm happy to report that after a hiatus of more than a decade I may finally be playing bass in a band again soon. Setting up a jam/audition for next month. Probably won't be more than a gig or month or so (if it all works out) but with my family and work schedule that'll work out fine.

All the other people in the band are older than me and I have a little trepidation because they seem a little wacky, in a cheesy kind of way, but they also seem like cool people. The music is mostly acoustic, kind of celtic-flavored, but in addition to originals they do celtic-infused versions of stuff like CCR and other stuff from the 50s-70s. I've only heard a little of their stuff and was impressed even though it's not really anything like what I listen to or what I've played in the past.

What's really appealing is that they are laid back about things. They aren't a bunch of 20 year olds in eyeliner (not that there's anything wrong with that) who want someone young and attractive so they can "get signed and make the bigtime" or be playing out constantly...something I can't really commit to, not to mention in in my 40s and chubby.

Anyways, if it's fun, I'll do it. If I get along with them and enjoy making that kind of music, I'm gonna try to stick with them for awhile. REALLY miss making music with others and playing out.

If nothing else, maybe I'll make other connections with local bands and find another outlet.

Yep, I did it again - just not a chrome hardware on the body kind of guy. Replaced the stock N3 Noiseless with Nordstand NJ4's, matte black pickguard, black control plate and Hipshot A style string-thru bridge.
