Origin Cali76CB v2

Interesting. For you guys who are current Cali76 CB v1 owners/users and are saying you would replace the current model with the new ver .... is it just the metering that is appealing ? Everything else seems the same (at least externally). I run mine at 18v off the Noble power section and have it dialed in pretty much where I want it, and I basically don't really ever change it. Not sure that the added metering means much to me. How about the rest of you ?

I must admit that I owned and used comps with more accurate metering than the Cali76CB v1, like the Empress MKII, the MXR M87 or the DLA-2A.
However, that jewel bezel that is red when active, and goes from orange to yellow with increasing compression was always good enough for me.

On top of that, I must admit that the v2 version looks a bit like that DemonFX ripoff. Somewhat less classy.
For the time being, I will hold on to my v1 units as a happy camper.

Yeah, it kinda looks off... And I agree about the jewel light. It was always good enough.

I remember Ian Martin Allison mentioning in one of his videos he worked with Origin Effects for some things. He wished baaaad for metering on comps so this might have been worked on in collab with him.

I don't mind the jewel on my OG CB, but it is annoying that it doesn't return to red anymore. It has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum and how to fix it, but mine seems to work for a while and then go back to just staying orange. Still sounds the same.

Metering seems cool, but i rarely relied on it. It works with this, tho- there is a lot going on under the hood with this pedal. I am intrigued…

I just want to try one at some point it get so much love that anything that might be an improvement make it more enticing. The board it would go would replace a Mira not bad compressor but its not like it has kept me from wonder about the Alma or something else. Plus also I'm highly interested in seeing how the DCX works with it. But I'll wait until others report back.

Not enough of an upgrade for me personally to care, but I’ve been using the UA 1176 on my main board since I got it anyway. I like having a separate attack and release and it sounds more like a real 1176 to me.

I’m in the same boat as you; Cali76 CB v1 running 18v off the Noble. I just got my Cali a couple months ago and the only things I’d like improved are a smaller footprint and better metering. That said, I’m also in the same boat as you where I have it dialed in where I like and don’t change the settings. So I don’t see myself getting the new one unless maybe I move to a new board layout where I absolutely need the space, but I sure wish this new version had come out a few months earlier because I’d surely have chosen it!

To me, my Cali76 only has two aspects that I don't really like: the lack of metering (I moved to the Cali from MXR) and the taller footprint. It seems that this version is perfect for me. However, I am not sure that I would replace my v1 because it is quite an investment. And I must say that I got used to the metering of the v1, so I am not sure that to me is worth the upgrade.

It’s says there’s HPF side chain in the description, but there’s no adjustment knob. Hmmm… there’s no way I can use a compressor pedal without the HPF on bass. The bass frequency pushes the compressor too hard and messes up my tone. The HPF adjustment is a must-have

Good catch, and unfortunate omission. Internal trim pot maybe? Better than nothing, but not ideal. The HPF (like on my Apex and Empress) is must-have indeed. For that reason alone I'd still be inclined towards getting a used V1.

An internal trim knob will not work for me because different basses won’t be the same HPF setting
