I'm playing two shows at a big venue in my town. One's in July, the other August. We're playing for free both nights. It will be our first two gigs, and we're supporting nationally touring acts (the one's from Australia).
While we technically play for free, the owner pays bands who sell a lot of tickets. We'll get the tickets tomorrow, giving us a month to sell, and if we draw well, we get paid well. I feel like this is a fair trade. Obviously, if the rates aren't right, I'll feel shafted, but I'm compensated based on the amount of people I bring in to earn the owner money.
Yeah, that's called "Pay to Play".
