Overrated bass players

I wouldn't say Jaco is as much overrated as he is overhyped.
Granted he could do some cool fretless jazz-fusion stuff, but in what other context would that kind of playing even work?
Not many.
Great PLAYER ever? No.
Greatest JAZZ player ever? Arguably.

If you have to tell repeatedly over and over that YOU are the best player ever w/out someone else saying it first, well, then I donno.

cliff is horrible and goes out of key in improv solos. the only thing i respect is his SECOND bass solo in orion, because it sounds really really good.

sheehan is an ownerer, you have no right to bag him if u cant play his stuff, and the of the **** he does is ****ed.
Myung is the perfect bassist.
Steve Harris is overated.
John Entwhistle is the grooviest dude since hitler.

i guesswe can agree that everyone is overrated, and by that, we can agree everyone is under rated..

"Jaco is overrated, Sheehan is faster!" "Sheehan is overrated, Jaco was much more melodic" and that way we can keep on going a looooong time...

BTW, Geddy Lee is Fast if he have to(listen to alot of the stuff on "Vapor Trail"), and Melodic, and plays complicated, and SINGS at the same thing, does that make him the perfect bassist?

What happened to all of the overrated bassists? It's a conspiracy against me! Some that were mentioned by other members (and myself) before (and in no particular order) Tom Hamilton, Jason Newsted, Stu Hamm, and YES Victor Wooten.

Hmmm...Re: Victor, when's the last time Gary Willis called *you* to sub. Before calling someone overrated keep that in mind.

oh yea and steve harris and cliff aren't over rated.. if you play metal you would know they arent.. keeping 8ths and 16ths (as well as steve's galloping triplets and dead notes) goin all night is very difficult

This is the perfect question I have for any of "super" bass players listed in this thread. We usually only hear them in their solo work, their own band, or the"supergroup". But take them from upfront and put them back behind Tim Mcgraw or Garth Brooks. Would they be able to fit in as just a "side man"?( I am not asking if they would want to.)
