yeah if you sweat alot it helps...but also personally i only had that bass for a loooong time so it got played alot alot alot...i also eat strings fast so i may be a bit acidic

Here's my latest addition to the bass arsenal. This is actually the first P-Bass I have ever owned. I guess you can call it a Franken-P, with a Mexican accent, since it does have an MIM P-Bass neck.
The MIM P-bass neck on the P-bass was actually originally on the sunburst J-bass, which was my first modification exercize. The P-bass has Bassline QuarterPounder pickups, Leo Quan Badass II bridge, and Fender tuners. All the hardware is black, and the strings are DR Black Beauties. I use these on a number of my basses.
My 10 year old has already claimed this as his next bass, since he's finally outgrowing his Fernandes Nomad.

I prefer the Duncan Designs. They sound deeper, louder and rougher. Someday I'll replace the pickup with a SD Quarterpounder. I'm going to replace the bridge with a Gotoh 201, just for fun.

I've got my first bass (a Xmas gift in 1978), a 1967 Fender P Bass with a 1981 Badass II bridge. OK, when I was 17 (being a TOTAL idiot), I listened to our drummer who had a friend who ran an auto body shop and wanted me to repaint my bass a cool candy apple blue... so, being a 17 year old TOTAL idiot, I let him take my bass apart (back in 1981) and strip the original worn all to hell sunburst finish from my bass. Then, I got cold feet before it could be painted and told him to stop. Well, he had to put a sealant on it (a pine finish that is fugly), and put it back together. Since then, it hasn't been taken apart and it plays like a dream. I plan on getting it restored (with the appropriate aging done according to photos from the time I rec'd it), but until then.. here it is.

rtav... nice bass... I'd keep it the way it is. It looks like it has that Rory Gallagher level of wear. 
I agree - leave it the way it is...just get another bass that's candy apple blue...leave the mojo as is!

I would leave it the way it is also. It has it's own original personality and a story behind it. Priceless!
I had a 60 something p bass and I also sanded it down during the 80's to paint it black. We had a gig coming up so I had to put it back together with NO finish on it at all. Kind of liked the wood finish over time and my sweat poured into the untreated wood creating a personality that no other bass had. I called it my wife. Sadly it was stollen out of my truck one night after practice. I miss that damn ugly, great action, smooth playing P bass.
Over the years I tried to replace it but never could. I now play a 98 p bass that is all black and I like it but she just isn't like the old wood... hhaha
These are the pictures from the original sale, but yeah... it's mine. And I LOVE it. So versitile! I can even pull back on the mids and get a really passive vintage sound out of it...
