lol! Whats going on there? Did he buy short scale strings or something?
I have a similar issue with my Bacchus 51 style SCPB.
Because of the extra length required with the string through body, I have to trim the silk back about an 1/4 inch on all 4 strings at the nut. It only takes a couple of minutes to cut and trim the wraping back behind the nut.
The winding over the nut on my low E on the mid 50's P-Bass - that's because I love the sound of the heavy gauge "1952" set of La Bella flatwounds. The through body stringing makes the wrap go over the nut, It actually doesn't affect the sound - just looks terrible! hahahaha
Ni it ain't - 'cos the windings stop being flat around 4mm after the silkwrap begins, and it's twissted exposed underlayer and core wire from then on
Still, if you want to get a specific sound & feel, then sometimes you have to sacrifice other things, huh?

I'm with ya. I trim up my Fender 7150's 'cause those sound the best to my ears, so I do the trimming thing. The factory strings didn't have that issue, but I didn't like the sound as much as the 7150's. Too bad you can't do that with the flats, but your right, I'd put up with that small incovenience if they have the sound. 
EDIT: Just looked at the pic again. Are you sure they didn't just accidently put in a medium scale 32" E string in your set by accident? All the other strings seem to line up right. Does that happen with every set of that brand you buy, or was that just a fluke with that particular set? Stranger things have happened. I had sets of guitar strings where one string wouldn't even reach the tuners, a set of bass strings with the E missing, and a set with a dead A right out of the pack. Weird things like that can happen.

I'm not sure I need another club in my sig, but I definitely like the idea of a P-bass club. (Even though they're all supposedly "one-trick ponies."
) Plus, I haven't posted my '83/'57 RI in a while.

The E string on the Jamerson set starts the silkwrap earlier than on the A, D, and G strings unfortunately. On a bridge strung P-Bass the strings are fine - it's just on the through body models you get an issue like in my pic.
I was gonna have some extra long scale ones made in the "1952" format (the core / wrap ratio is different from the normal flatwound construction you see - so a longer scale La Bella of teh same gauge wouldn't have quite the same tone/sound. However, having some individual strings made up would require a minimum order of 20 or so, and as each set lasts for years and years, it seems a bit of an expensive indulgence just to address a purely cosmetic issue.
