That is an original Sting bass! (almost)

The finish was very lovingly removed to reveal a nice piece of wood.
Once stripped, the bass was finished with a stain similar in color to the original Fender basses, and then given a hand-rubbed tung oil topcoat.
The resulting bass has a real vintage look and feel. The body is very resonant; kinda quivers against your chest when you play it, like the old ones do.

The neck was sent to luthier Michael Dolan and had the dreaded 12th fret "Stinglay" replaced with simple black celluloid.

The pickup is the original, because they sound great, with a high-quality custom wiring harness by Bayou Cables. It's quiet as a church mouse.

The bridge is the Fender Deluxe style in order to provide intonation for individual strings.

It weighs 8.5 pounds. This is the perfect "Sting Bass".

The best part is the guy who did all the work, turned around and sold it.

But it is exactly how I would have done it.

And now it's mine...:smug:

My no name P-bass clone, bought in the early 90's. I fitted a Hipshot E string drop tuner and made the scratch plate from 3 ply sheet (was white), used it for gigs for a few years. In the late 90's a friend made active internals for it. It was my first bass :)
