I have a set on my '62 Jazz bass reissue, and a set on my '62 P-bass reissue. These were around 20 bucks at Guitar Sphincter. A GREAT price for this set. The TI''s are truly great strings, but only IF you like light tension flats. I also love the LaBella flats, they are kind of in between the TI's and Fenders as far as price- about 38 bucks, and initial brightness goes. In my opinion, the Fenders are equal to the LaBellas I love so much, but are far easier to find, and are less expensive, both big factors in string preference. I have a set of Rotosound Jazz bass flats on my Warmoth '50's style maple neck Precision, and these are killer sounding, bright, punchy strings. The gauges are 110, 95,70,55, I believe...and the drawback to them is that they are very high tension, too high for many players. I play upright, and it is not a real issue for me. They come in lighter gauge sets, they might be just what your looking for. The new, out of the package tone is quite unlike most flats, it is very roundwound-like. They still retain the punch of a flat, however, and as they break in, the tone gets better. My all-round pick as the best string if all the factors are considered, are the Fenders, no contest.
