P-Bass options - Sire P5?

I’ve relinquished bass duties in one of my band to another bass player so I can focus on the lead vocals.
That being said he’s primarily an upright bassist, but does play electric bass. For the music we’re doing he needs a P-Bass and only has an American Jazz.
He’s interested in a new P-Bass but doesn’t want to break the bank. He absolutely doesn’t want a Squier, but he’s also staying away from Fender because if theur current quality issues and over pricing.

I was thinking about recommending a Sire P5 but know very little about them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I love my sire p5. I have several fenders, and a couple squiers. The sire is easily as good as any of them and better than most. The only p bass I'll grab before it is a mij coolz because the neck dimensions suit me just a hair better (a little deeper front to back than the sire). Anyone who grabs my sire is always in love with the rolled fingerboard edges.

A SCHECTER BANSHEE BASS could also be a good option and their quality is top notch.

Great bass but won’t work, 30” scale and need a standard 34”. They do however have a P4 that looks quite nice. Thanks for mentioning Schecter.

No discernable difference. It's a p bass. I swap pickups around quite a bit, so all my p basses sound a little bit different, but they all sound like a p bass, including the sire.

Chicago Tribute and the P-Bass clunky sound is crucial in most of the Pete Cetera era tunes.

He had an issue with Fender in the past and has chosen to avoid anything sold by them. I can relate to this.
In 1980 I bought a new Toyota Corolla SR5 Hatchback and the oil pump check valve failed when I was driving at 70 mph on the Interstate. The valve stuck and the pressure was so great that it caused the oil filter to split open, losing all the oil and destroying the engine.
It was under warranty but because I had the oil changed by my local mechanic they blamed it on a faulty oil filter. The car was toast and trading it in cost me about a $5000 loss.
I’ve bought probably 20 new vehicles since then but never a Toyota, nor has my son or daughter. I’ve never seen a Toyota Funeral Hearse but my family has explicit instructions that if there is one, they’re to strap me to an “auto creeper” and drag my butt to the grave site.

Wow, too bad. That could have been a quick and easy solution. I mean I‘ve had problems with stuff before and its a bummer but that is what warranties and return policies are for. The thing that replaced the original was fine.
But I’ll let him do him

A Squier is not a Corolla though. No oil pump to worry about

I have a P5 and love it! The bigger headstock does cause a touch of neck dive, but isn't major. Otherwise sounds, feels and plays like a P should.

I’d just use the neck pickup on the jazz and call it a day.
