P Diddy's Makin the Band.

What model P do you have? I thought I saw a J pickup in the bridge position.

I have a P-Bass Deluxe, it has Noiseless P/J PU's in them. Everything is stock except for the bridge, which I changed.

I thought I saw the same thing!!! It sure sounds like a PJ combination to me-great sounding bass!!! Reminds me of an old Ibanez Roadster(tone)that I wish I still had.

As far as the keyboard bass issue is concerned, it wouldn't make sense to conceal those skills if you had them-especially for this gig!!!!

Thank You! I've seen a Ibanez Roadster bass before, I was impressed. If anything, on this particular gig I would have gotten eliminated after that episode if they would have known I could play and acted as if I didn't. I didn't speak of it much to everybody, I really kept it more to myself and just worked on it day and night all day in the practice rooms and practiced with my band to get the songs down. After playing them and figuring out the notes, the songs were really easy except for Pleasure Principle which I had the most trouble out of b/c the judges wanted it just like the record.

Yes Sharay did audition in Chicago but didn't want to come to LA. Brockett is my best friend from the house, he always messes with me about that. The thing about the keybass once again is not staged or by no means a front. Brockett was making an example of me, I was around the house really nervous and scared I would be sent home if I didn't learn those parts in time for the challenge when I first started playing. The day of the show I had all of my parts to every song, didn't play them with the best feel but you knew I put in alot of time and effort. I am really thankful that everything worked out the way it did. As far as the Dean thing, I already explained. I have never worked personally with those Artist Bow Wow and Omarion but shared the same stage as them is what that Bio was saying. I told them to take that Bio down because it is now stirring up controverse and I don't even play or endorse them anymore. When they fired the guy who got me the Endorsement as Artist Manager I left too.

A friend on mine, a local bassist, was on the show. He got eliminated on the first task (the arpeggios). I haven't seen him since the show so I haven't talked to him about it. Kind of surprised me but then again a viewer can't tell how much time people are actually spending working on the tasks. It seems obvious it should be "every waking moment" but I guess everyone doesn't look at it that way.

I don't really know anything about the Dean stuff other than seeing the ad.

I'm surprised more people I know haven't noticed the J pickup. Nice bass. I've always thought the most obvious answer for the "Why Fender?" question is "Because they work". For many people, it's as simple as that.

The reason I use Fenders, and even Fender-inspired basses such as Sadowsky is because that type of tone is VERY familiar to a lot of non-bassist musicians. They've literally heard it thousands of times on classic recordings. I've been approaching tone that way now for the first time with great results. If I consider my playing approach/tone from the perspective of the person/group that is hiring me, chances are the gig will sound better, and I'll keep getting called. Have to say though, I would be extremely intimidated to have to put together some keybass chops that quickly. Much props!

I caught the show where Diddy went off on general and laid all his boys out. Leads me to a couple questions.
1. The MD's are saying..It must sound like the record. Diddy tells the drummer to play the drums, which, unless I'm blind and deaf, DOES NOT sound like the record and he appears to love it..then he cusses the MD's out b/c nothing sounds like the record ( i know he's prolly targeting the singers, but)...uhhhhh, okay..
2. The singers are saying they can't hear themselves, but they ARE standing in front of wedges, are they not? Hmmmmm. Maybe it's just me...

What was your friends name on bass? Actually the Hannon Exercises were very difficult, by us not ever seeing them before until that partucular moment. We had to use the correct fingerings as well as keyboard players and hit every note just like the Sheet Music Book had it written down and know them in every key. It was definitely something that was very technical and almost like being in a University for music almost. They just wanted to see who would put in the time and effort in getting those Exercises, not how perfect we could play them even though some of us managed to play them 90% decent or better except for Brockett, Blake, Lynette and Tom who are all Music Majors and played them 100%.

The judges had constantly told us to play identical to the record, so we were scared to step and do otherwise. They would tell us that Diddy doesn't like snares and runs and all the other things but when he would come in he would want all of that but still sound like the record. The singers, LOL. I don't know what to say, I love them all.

Do you think that the individuals that were on the show i.e. made the band, will be the actual people doing the gig?

Did the show pay you or provide you with a per-diem or did they just handle room, board and food?
