On my P copy, as well as every other bass I own, I might as well not have a tone knob. I always leave it all the way on.

Swapped in one of the Bayou Cables harnesses (with CTS pots and a mallory tone cap) and it was like night and day. Even tone all the way through the knob, infinitely more usable and sounds much better as a whole.
+1. As it isn't an active bass, anything less than dimed out is a "cut."When playing fingerstyle, all the way up. When playing with at pick, rolled back about a quarter turn.
