P guys, where do you set your tone knob?

On my P copy, as well as every other bass I own, I might as well not have a tone knob. I always leave it all the way on.

Swapped in one of the Bayou Cables harnesses (with CTS pots and a mallory tone cap) and it was like night and day. Even tone all the way through the knob, infinitely more usable and sounds much better as a whole.

Same here. BIG improvement. I move mine all over the place; mostly at 3/4, but some full off, some 7/8, some full on. Depends on the tune and playing technique I'm using. I like the Sprague caps too, but the Mallory is OK for now.

Haven't owned a P in awhile, but when I did I mostly went the Jamerson route... booting everything and controlling the tone/volume w. the amp.

Most of the time dimed and forget it, but I like setting it at about 4/5 on sometimes.

always up full just like the volume and do my adjusting from the amp. Dont like the sound deterioration caused by turning down pots with passive circuits.

once a year I read a thread like this and wonder if I'm missing something. futz w/ it and think why anyone would want to use it (been about a year )

though I've heard some nice clips of the vilex and that other one w/ the 16 position switch that somewhat peak my interest . . . but in the end I prob wont ever use 'em.

It's always fully off - but I made a custom 12-way 'variable cutoff frequency passive low-pass filter' for a fraction of the the price of the Stellartone.

+1. As it isn't an active bass, anything less than dimed out is a "cut."
