Dropped my AVHR Fender P off at the tech to have a switch installed to cut the J completely out of the circuit. I've had a hard time getting a straight up "P" sound from this bass. Thoughts? Anyone do the same?

Yup, you're correct. But the jazz pickup still effects the tone even when turned down. The P pickup soloed just sounds kinda weird.
Thats weird......
I'm no expert, but I've been reading about interesting electronics mods in preparation for a passive PJ parts build and have learned a few things. My understanding is that each pot places a load on the circuit, even if the volume or value of that pot is turned all the way off. So a PJ with the P soloed won't necessarily be the same as a P all on its own without a J in the circuit.
With VBT controls, there is a workaround that I was planning to use on my build, which you can read about here: Ultimate No-load Ungrounded Blend Pot (Pics!)
Hopefully that helps!
