P, J or Other? What do you usually play?

Most used is a Warwick Streamer Stage I, which is a PJ configuration. I keep the blend about 75% P / 25% J pickup and use the EQ for tone shaping.

I bring my Precision and Sadowsky to gigs. Im about 3 sets to 1 on the P.

I do the same but the proportion is reversed

I marked "other" because I have four Gretsch basses, one Fender P and one P-clone, one Squier Bronco, a Dean Psycho Cabbie, a Gibson EB-0, and an early 70;s Univox 335-style hollowbody.

I play the Gretsch basses the most, but the rest is all up to whim.

I voted jazz, but I'm slowly moving towards PJs. Just ordered this Warwick Streamer LX today, I think it's going to be my #1: View attachment 2862441

I've been playing the Streamer LX for about a month. It's a great playing/sounding bass for a lot different styles and very strong clear tone without the need for a ton of volume to hear it with the band. I also like the neck feel, but still getting used to all these frets.

I love the P necks. I will never like how skinny the neck is down low on a Jazz but I can't deny my love for the sound, so I voted Jazz. Maybe one day I'll swap a P neck on a J.

FYI there is one of those on Chicago Craigslist {P neck on a J body]

I have multiple Rics, Warwicks and G & Ls - none of which have anything remotely like a P or J.

I have 2 Rickenbackers, 2 jazz basses, 2 p-basses, 2 Jaguar basses, 1 Fenderbird, 4 SG basses, 2 stingray basses ... 1 is fretless, 1 is an 8 string, and the rest are all 5 string basses with frets. 1 is 30" scale, 2 are 33" the rest are 34" scale. I am building a 32" scale now. About half are passive and half are active.

So on any given day I play what ever bass grabs my fancy ...

I have a P, and it comes out sometimes. Not very often any more.

I never liked Ps due to the fat neck. I always wanted a J, but could never afford it when I played regularly. So, instead, I played cheap models from Ibanez. Now that I have money I only own Hofner 500/1s. I have two: an Ignition and a v63 fretless.

Don't care for P's. I've tried to like J's... and owned many of them. Don't mind P/J config.

Humbucker is where its at for me. My lineup in regular rotation:

L2000 neck pup on, series, active off or up one click depending on song, through an SD Studio Bass compressor into an Ampeg V4bh out through an Ampeg AV212.

An excellent choice for the Ampeg setup. A 2018 Gibson SG Std. Walnut.
