You will probably eventually wind up with both. Right now, I just have a Fender AS P5. Smooth as silk. With both pickups open the (passive) Jazz has that distinctive (scooped) tone that is very pleasant to the ear, and gives you a little more note articulation. Especially in certain live situations. Bell chime.

A Fender Precision does have that charm. They sound the way you play em'.
