P5 Club?

Played it this a.m. to see if It really warrants spending the $, and it doesn't seem to be that bad in that context (lol). Seriously, it seems to be getting better, so maybe it was a matter of the strings wearing in. At any rate, I think my plan B (no pun intended) will be to get a set of feeler gauges and learn set up myself. Since I've joined TB I've gone from one Fender J that I played for over 15 years to 7 basses (maybe a connection there?), so it's high time I learned that anyway. I'll start on the P5.

The B still seems to lack volume and punch despite the set up. I'm jamming with the boys this afternoon after church at a much higher volume than I've been playing at there so I'll really be able to tell after today whether I'll return it or not. Hope not as I love everything else about this guitar.

I am having a problem with my split p'up on my Am Deluxe P5. I guess, from what Fender is saying, mine is not standard factory type p'ups. Not really sure yet as to what that means, but the standard diagram from Fender does not match my bass. Anyone have any different factory 18v differences in their bass than what is posted as the wiring diagram for the Fender Am Deluxe 5'er

Just picked up a new Fender American Standard Precision V. It is a fantastic bass and the B string is out of this world. Very impressive.

Does anyone know if Fender changed the P5's to 18MM spacing in the last year or so? I had a 2102 P5 and I could have sworn it was 19mm... The new ones are definitely 18mm.

Three of a Perfect Pair... :D

Candy Cola's a 2011
Olympic White's a 2012

Middle black / maple is a modified late 70's de-fretted...

Anyone P/J fretless modify one of the new Vintage Squire P5's? I'm thinking of picking one up and going that route,...
Just need to get the Jazz V sold 1st,... (see link below :hiding:)
Well, decided to keep the J5. Could not separate "Thing One" from "Thing Two"!!!

Resurrecting this thread because I just took a photo of my entire family. Not all have P-style pickups, but all have P-shaped bodies, and all have five strings. New member: the trans blue one.

From L-R:
2006 Benavente 51 model (passive)
2005 Sadowsky Ultra-Vintage P5 (one of the first batch made, I believe)
2006 Benavente 51 model (active w/J-style pickups)
2010 Sadowsky Ultra-Vintage P5 (Brazilian RW board, mint guard)
2013 Nordstrand custom Nordy "PP5"
2010 Sadowsky custom "MM5" (ebony board)

I'm really hooked on the P5 thing... So now I have a family too!

L-R:
Dingwall Super P5
2014 Fender American Standard P5 w/ Nordstrand Big Split in bridge 60's position
Nordy VJ5 Modern, reverse P and Big Split in 70's position (active)
Nordy VP5

They all sound incredible, and radically different from each other.

I've posted my basses somewhere at one time or the other, but I love my AM STD Precision 5. Equipped with Nord NP5Fs and a Bartolini AGP-918 preamp...this particular bass has a great B string and better than usual sustain. I went through hell getting the neck straightened out from some guitar tech screwing it up while it was brand new. But it was worth the trouble...

Does anyone know if there are any lighter weight tuners that would fit the Fender P5? If there are, was thinking of putting the P5 tuners on my VM P5 (will check to see if they fit once I get both basses at home on Thursday) thereby reducing weight on both basses.

Those of you with a Fender P5, could you please describe your tuners and year (if known)? My 2010 has the typical elephant ear tuners with the 4 screw plate on back. The back of the tuners also have an imprint of the scroll Fender F. Thanks!
