Parliament Filter Funk! - Which Filter?

Im not sure, I kinda use whatever I have available, currently the one in my B3......Im only responding because I have a P-funk style project called Urban Shokker and, after lots of experimenting, I find that these things track better and more efficiently with just bridge pickup soloed......YMMV, of course, but Im posting one of our tunes so you can have a listen

If you want a Mutron, buy a Mutron. Done.
An original Mu-Tron III probably costs more than my car ... and that's if you can find one at all. The later (HAZ Labs) version of the Mu-Tron III didn't sound the same.

The closest to a real Mu-Tron III I've ever come across is the old bigbox EHX Q-Tron from the mid-'90s. And that shouldn't be a surprise since it was also designed by Mike Beigel. But later EHX Q-Trons don't sound "correct" to me, so there's obviously more to the story there.

I haven't played through the newer Micro Tron, but since Beigel is involved they're probably pretty good.

Get something by SA. For filter sounds, I find that analog has a tough time cutting it.

Very analog filter I have played is extremely finicky. Digital filters by SA just work. Maybe not exactly the sound you are looking for, but they hit it 95% for me and when using different amps and jamming in different situations, the fact that they work 100% of the time is huge.

The new Micro-Tron sounds exactly like the older units - especially if you use the jumper for « vintage « preamp. There is a teensy amount of grit that they don’t have but it’s barely noticeable.

Beigel makes them and they are real Mutrons.

I have 3 older units and have a/b’d more than once.

Dang, that was good!

I have heard that the Maxon AF9 autowah is a Mu-Tron III clone pedal. I used to have the Ibanez version, and I didn't care for it, so that tells me it probably was a Mu-Tron :D

You must have a REALLY crappy car lol. The originals are getting absurdly expensive now, but you can still find them nicely used for under 500 if you’re patient.

They’re awesome, but also noisy, large and the tone suck is strong. Basically the Bootsy fans keep the prices up imo, they’ve been over $300 for nearly 20 years

I love the idea of people suggesting Source Audio digital recreations of the Mutron instead of just suggesting the analog original. So ass backwards it makes me laugh - TB in a nutshell.
Id be agreeing with you about that as far as their fuzzbox, to me the aftershock can't be in the same room as a TAFM or a Grizzlly or Pharaoh (or a ruiner or tomato or el oso or mastatron/wholleymammothBrassmaster etc etc., a superfuzzclone, a ratclone, or a TUBE in amp or box...), it doesn't respond the same something is lacking...but I just bought the C4 because it's has Great Sounds and tracking right out of the box before even getting into the editing and they are digital sounds so using a digital box seems appropriate. I'm really looking forward to trying it out with trumpet too...

I also like buying their product at my local Mr Music in Alston MA where they have a relationship with the local company SA, and all their (SA's) fiddling around with that chip and interfaces finally resulted in a piece of indispensable well built equipment that survives Darwinian pedalboard competition.

Fwonk beta is a great funk pedal. Digital, but sounds so analogue. Main thing to know about some filters (like the fwonk) is that they peak pretty hard and you will need a compressor after them for live shows. Kind of a hassle if you dont already have that chain in place.

I love my recently acquired EarthQuaker Devices Spatial Delivery - been through 8 filters before I found one that worked for ME. Was pretty much ready to give up on filters altogether until I found this one - knew within 10 seconds it was the one.

Filters are IMO frustratingly personal - I've heard cats use filters that sounded like just what I was after, but the filter didn't work for me when I tried it - especially in the area of triggering sensitivity (or lack thereof).

About the size of two compact Boss pedals side by side, which is the only reason I didn't mention it previously, but...the EHX Q-Balls is The One for me.

It didn't end my search for envelope filters (because I love them too much!), but it certainly ended my search for the right Mu-Tron III type filter for my wants and needs.

I have a WMD Prostar it does everything

Very intrigued by this pedal. It’s way too big and too complicated so of course I really want one.
