Parliament Filter Funk! - Which Filter?

I love the idea of people suggesting Source Audio digital recreations of the Mutron instead of just suggesting the analog original. So ass backwards it makes me laugh - TB in a nutshell.

Why is this backwards when the SA products are readily available and cheaper and sound fantastic? Makes a lot of sense to me.

To everyone recommending the MXR BEF: I had one and I loved the response of the filter, but the bandpass sound didn't age well for me. It was one my board for probably 3 years before I ended up getting the Moog MF-101.

The C4 seems like a cool pedal and I'd love to check it out, but for filters especially I really like sticking in the analog world. I've had an SA manta and used a friend's Future Impact. So far I haven't been impressed with digital filters or anthing that claims to be a "synth in a stomp box". I get my massive synth sounds with a combination of my other pedals.

I have a Proton on the way and I hope it does everything I need! I tried a friend's neutrino and was pretty content with that as well. I'll report back on how to Proton treats me! thank you all again for your advice and suggestions!

At one point, I had six filter pedals on my board (don’t judge). Proton V3, Wonderlove V2, Filter Twin, Spatial Delivery, JoshWah, and BassIQ. Each one excelled at something different, and I loved them all for what they did. I owned other filters prior to those as well, that didn’t so much do it for me.

Now that SA has come out with the Spectrum, it seems like the clear answer to replace some of the pedals that I’ve missed since I sold off all of my effects. One box that will get me 90-95% of the way to the sounds of some of those pedals seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yep. I have a Proton on the shelf, and have both the Joshwah and a IE Xerograph Deluxe on my board currently. a few others hidden away. Would be great to get down to just one great filter on the board.

Also, Future Impact is a great synth that has some ability to control the envelope within that context but it's not an envelope filter and I'd never use it as such.

Im not sure, I kinda use whatever I have available, currently the one in my B3......Im only responding because I have a P-funk style project called Urban Shokker and, after lots of experimenting, I find that these things track better and more efficiently with just bridge pickup soloed......YMMV, of course, but Im posting one of our tunes so you can have a listen

Thats funky! Very nice!

That would only make sense as long as the DSP box had digital inputs and outputs, as well as what's to be connected directly before and after it. Otherwise you're just adding one more A/D/A conversion in your signal chain.
That would be the only ada conversion in my line unless I use the Superego... I own the EHbasssynth and it reduces my line level and can't handle notes below A string well, I also have a Maxon, 2 Ibanez, 3 other EH's got a DrQ in 1976), Mutrons, the Dearmonds (original big pedal and the new Doctor's Note) the DOD (being a fan of Bill Lazwell) use a Mojo Hand Analogfilter for my filter on trumpet replacing the 76' DrQ... The C4 has a very high initial usability score. It sounds "pfat" (a technical term). As opposed to the Enzo which is run by a secret code you get from a foldout graphic...reminds me of the Voynich Manuscript Invalid Link Removed

A) I love that they've finally figured out the Voynich Manuscript as of like...this year.

B) The idea that you can have a single pedal on your board that gives you hundreds of envelope sounds from classic funky/quack to modern fully weirdo stuff and everything in between is excellent.

C) The ability to combine 'traditional' pedals these days along with end-user-programmable stuff (Source Audio, Strymon, FI, Eventide, etc.) is really excellent. The double edged sword is that you also have to be able to understand (and possibly master) a variety of software interfaces and concepts to do it well.

This talk of the SA Spectrum and the C4 has me intrigued. Right now, I enjoy running the MXR BEF and the Fwonk Beta together.

Forgive my lack of better terms, but I was able to dial in more of a "quack" sound with the MXR, but had a hard time achieving the "bubble" sound. I heard about the Fwonk Beta and got one used and it does a great job at hitting that "bubble" sound. I decided to keep them both and run them together and the sound is nothing short of glorious.

I'll see if I can get my hands on a used C4, Spectrum, or Microtron III. I don't have any real practical application for an envelope filter in a live setting, but they sure are fun to mess around with!

Man I fired that thing up and nearly blew off the roof. I think it would love a passive jazz bass. My double humbuckers with 18 volt preamp not so much
Man I totally feel you there! I have Bart Soapbars in a Jazzish configuration and an 18v Aguilar OBP-3. I have to be super careful with my setup... but man it sounds so so good!

Reminds me I need to try it with my passive P/J. Never ran it through that one.

I have used the Mu-Tron back in the day. Loved it!

Having said that, this is one I'm using now...

I know it's not high dollar pedal but, it's fun and small.

It has 5 envelope filters in it that can be used. And multiple filters can be used
at once. As well as the other effects in the box :)
