Parts Basses, show some love

GniflJ5.jpg

198? MIJ Fretless Jazz Bass.
Neck and body are both E Series, but not matching.
Bubinga PG and Knobs and Thubrest
Bartolini 9J1 Pickups
Ashtry and Pick up cover

i've posted this instrument on other threads for various reasons, but it's a parts bass (and i play it, like it, yada yada):

neck = fender license neck, circa 1995
body = samick, CL find
pu's = guitar fetish, redactive set with the EQ
bridge = not sure, don't remember: i think it's the guitar fetish piece
tuners = grovers (they're lefty!)
strings = DR, neon red
pickguard = cheap, an internet find
knobs = 'rubberized' red paint from home depot
neck plate = paint
headstock decal = inspired by my wife

I'm a bit of a parts addict. Up first is my Jazz, I still own this one. Signature body bought off ebay, allparts neck, now sporting Fralin split pickups, hipshot d-tuner. Incredible bass, this will be my lifetime keeper.

Next is another Jazz project that I treded a while back. Bought the body off ebay, had the neck from the next bass posted here. Body was routed for the AM Dlx precision humbucker bridge pickup. Very cool bass.

Last was an SX PJ body with SD pickups and an allparts neck. Swapped the body out for the Sunburst Jazz and later traded that bass for a Mesa Amp!

Dude! I love the 3 tone Sunburst with the blocks, I want one just like that one ... although I may or may not put a tortoiseshell pickguard on it instead of the black because I have a black pickguard on quite a few of my Basses. Great job!
Thank you...it plays very well...I put CTS pots, orange cap, Leo Quan II bridge, Duncan Spb-4 and Stk-j2b....Love how it sounds and plays great.
I do my own setups and both the Dual P and PJ have the same action and playability, just different tones of course.
Hope you get to do yours soon...let's see what it ends up like, ok?
Have a great week!

.love the cream pups on the dark wood. 1000% better looking than black

the red bass is killer.....love the varying colours of pups and knobs

.....and I was just starting to admire for 1/4 a second the translucent finish/wood grain on the upper horn, until it clicked that it was the reflection of your blinds :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: :D:D:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: :rollno:

:) thanks! It's a WD (opaque) Fiesta Red alder body that had nearly imperceptible finish flaws so was discounted attractively. The neck is a MityMite, (80's) heart-shaped Ibanez tuners, I made the clear acrylic/sparkle base pg, inset Dunlop Strap-Lok pegs, Fender Super 55 neck pu/Dimarzio Model J pu (both split-coil) at the (very cool) Hipshot "Kick-Ass" bridge, and a (passive) Kellingsound electronic harness w/push-pull 500k tone pot.
