Parts Basses, show some love

My warmoth jazz. I have since changed the bridge to a hipshot kickass and added a chrome pickup cover. I might update with a new photo.

Warmoth mahogany jazz body, maple/maple neck. Hipshot ultralite tuners, hipshot kickass bridge. Fender super 55 split coil jazz pickups, they discontinued these and they are amazing.

The bass is 100% made in USA.

I have the 55s on the one I posted too . Why oh why are these pups discontinued?

Interesting point… in this case it begs for a definition of "parts bass" and "boutique bass". Both in this case are made of non-factory assembled parts. Parts can range from low budget/low quality MIC fare to high-grade & costly parts made anywhere really (some even in China by 'boutique' brands). Parts basses are made by individuals/players who want something they either can't readily buy (ala custom) or simply just want to assemble their own personal bass. A boutique brand bass is another story. These are high-end, or limited edition products that can be very unique or a high-end version of a standard bass style. I would have to say that regardless of the level of components, finish and sonic capabilities - until it becomes a 'produced' line (no matter how limited as long as there is more than one) - it's a parts bass. I'd go as far as saying Doners Design basses are 'boutique level' parts basses. ;) My Dark Sparkle P (post #90 above) can fall under this same category.

With the except of the Stingray, all of these are parts basses/mods. The Jag is a Warmoth Jazzmaster IV body with Fender MIA Jag neck and Nordstrand Big Singles, the PJ is a Fender MIA '57 Reissue body with MIA Jazz neck and rocking Fralin pickups (now has a lot more wear on the nitro body, Fender high mass bridge and white covers - see second pic), and the hollowbody is an Italia Rimini with a bunch of Ric inspired mods and Chi Sonic pickups.

Does that actually have holes drilled in the body or is it just a 3D look. I thought it was real but then I can't figure out where the pickup cavity is.

All holes are real, lined with reflective mylar & sparkle tape and some have thin glass mirror discs at the bottom. (all from the crafts store) Their depth varies depending on location, so where the pu cavity and neck pocket resides - the holes are shallower. It was done to lighten a very heavy ash body which was successful in more than one way; it made the body much lighter, it provided a platform for artistic expression, and the bass really sounds great! The acrylic shield is dark translucent amber coloured and more mysterious/subtle visually in neutral lighting. Details on this build start on post #325 black & blond P makeover (etc) Thanks for your interest! :)
