Parts Basses, show some love

The Frank:

All Parts (I think?) MIJ alder body finished in tru oil and polished with gun stock wax. Three-part body not matched super well but.....who cares?

MIM deluxe precision neck.

Fender 62 reissue pickups.

Gotoh bridge. Positioning the bridge was easily the most stressful part, but I think I got it right.

Hipshot ultralights.

I actually bought and used the pickguard eliminator control plate, though I may switch to a black guard for a more classic look.

Considering putting a J pickup in the bridge position. But why?

I love it.

It just dawned on me that out of the 10 Basses that I own, six of them are pretty much parts Basses, here are two more of them, an SX, body and neck from two different SX Basses, Seymour Duncan Music Man pickup in the bridge, a Fender Custom Shop 60s pick up in the neck position, a Gotoh Bridge and an Audere JZ3 preamp. and another Fender (70's) Jazz; neck and body both from the Stratosphere, a set of Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups, standard Fender bridge,

Here's mine.

GFS royal pawlonia, they called it sunburst (I'd call it red burst body), Mighty Mite jazz neck, Fender WBW PG, misc HW, now have 18V Barts).

Here she sits in an earlier incarnation.

I'd ordered the sunburst body, paid and got confirmation email. Couple days later I get an email that they are out of the sunburst bodies, to choose another color and they'd ship it, or wait for the sunburst to come back into stock (no telling how long that would be). So I ordered the black, already had the tort PG on the way, and sort of buggered the black body. Drilled through mounting a pickup (tape had worn off the bit, hadn't put enough on) and didn't measure the bridge placement correctly.

Right after I ordered the black body, I kept checking the guitarfetish site, and saw the sunburst body was back in stock. Ordered that one (again), and when it showed up did a better job of mounting pups and measured bridge more carefully.

Tort didn't look right on the burst body, so I got a white one.

It may not look like much but this bass is the most prized possession I own. It started life as a stock 98 MIM P bass. It was also my first bass. It was the last thing my father gave to me before he passed away later the next year from cancer.

It has had five necks two sets of pickups and several hardware changes over the years.

This bass has always had a certain tone to it that I am unable to reproduce with other p basses and keeps the same tone no matter the mods. I know it sounds crazy but to my ears that's the truth.

These days it never leaves the house and is my go to for practice. And I will never sell it. It will be buried with me.

"Parts" basses rule. There's always a chance they don't deliver once assembled, but when they do coupled with the personal input to assemble that bass - these are the basses played, not 'collected'.

.love the cream pups on the dark wood. 1000% better looking than black

the red bass is killer.....love the varying colours of pups and knobs

.....and I was just starting to admire for 1/4 a second the translucent finish/wood grain on the upper horn, until it clicked that it was the reflection of your blinds :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: :D:D:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: :rollno:

If it is a fender shaped object in my house odds are there are few fender parts.
