Hi. I am a Japanese thinking to buy 5 strings PJ made by Pat Wilkins. I found it a shop in Kyoto. But I live in Tokyo and it is impossible to try it before purchasing. How do you think?
It is prices 150000yen(about $1050)
Is it a bargain?

Hi. I have a 4 string Wilkins P/J and it really is a fine bass. $1050 is a good price especially if it is new.
Pat is a very nice guy and I would suggest contacting him to ask about details on this bass. It sure looks nice.

I love Pat Wilkins, he does great work. Going to bring him another one of my bass ukes to paint next week. Here's my mockup of it (with a vinyl stick-on sound hole).

I have 2 PJ5 basses that I bought from Pat personally. Something about that one doesn't seem right. Mine have 4 neck bolts, not 6. There is no good pic of the headstock with the logo, but it seems smaller and narrower at the tip than mine. The seller seems to have lots of the same identical bass for sale at different prices. I hope I'm wrong, but you might wanna research this one...

Pat's finishes are wonderful and he is a great friend. I love that he has been bitten by the medium scale bug too - especially when it comes to his own "players" - how cool is that?

Actually, Pat did the finish work, but those are my own "RockHill" bass designs....

A few recent finishes Pat did on my custom basses -

Gildaxe Juniper medium-scale - Pat nailed the 'Brie-Burst' /trans tobacco finish I was after.

Goildaxe Calabrone med-scale - Firemist Gold Metallic

Good friend Reid's custom maple-bodied 12'r that I gilded in variegated black-gold, blue-gold and silver. Clear-coat final-finishing by Pat.

...and Pat equally nailed this classic mahogany brown-burst on my 'Devil Magnum' with a refurbished '70s Ovation Magnum mahogany neck/ebony fb with carbon reinforcement strip.

Hi! I'd like to join the club!

I just received an ancient woods Wilkins P bass from ca. 2012. Apparently, it's the twin to Peter Cetera's Wilkins P bass. I've been searching for a good P bass and this one has a tone that is so focused and deep. And it plays very nicely (although it's in need of a setup). According to Pat, the rosewood board is about 90 years old, the alder 70+ years old, and the maple over 100 years old. You'd never know it by looking at it, but it feels great. My search is over!

It's a bit neck heavy, so I'm considering getting some light weight tuners. Any suggestions?
