Yeah I did... in fact I used that very concert as an example of his voice in another thread... it was painful. He sang Blackbird, and his voice had just lost its softness and warmness to me, it sounded strained and tired.

Paul's voice sounds fine to me although I guess since I never saw him before I don't have anything to compare him to. I've always thought he's had a bit of a hollow sound to his voice that was very pleasing and nice. But each to their own. he sounds very good singing george harrison songs.
Yeah, that was played with a pick. When my band covered it, I played it fingerstyle, too (which is harder, but I played with a plectrum so many years that I tend to take my pick technique for granted). Fingerstyle on my Jazz sounded more like Paul's pick with flats on his Hofner.
Do you really like old strings? I love them, and that's a bit of a minority view here on talkbass. I change them when they lose intonation. I've gone 8 years on one set.
I don't change my strings unless there's some kinda health issue. I just let em die they sound so good that way especially on my Godin Four. I can't stand the sound of new strings and i sit and just pluck and slap until their dead. I go with the raphael saadiq method, if their not broke, don't change them.
i think the queen concert was after his first leg in the us and after 30 concert x 3hours plus reharsel even Mccartneys voice can break. You say you didnt like blackbird but didnt you hear him sing Hey Jude listen to that and you hear how good he stills sings that Song. For good sake Mccartney is not 25 anymore he is 60 but he will still outscore most of his younger rivales when we are talking about vocal skills!!!!

Some people say here that Mccartney dont have any voice anymore, you can not have read all the reviews of his tour he have done in The US this year. All music critics have said that they are impressed by his voice!!!!If you dont belive me go to Abbeyroads beatles site and read all what people have said in the regulars papers
Martha don't you consider abbey road whatever a bias source? I think going to beatles websites to find out whether a beatle is cool not is a terrible way to go about it. those sites are self serving at best
Speaking of McCartney, what do you think of the recent flap over his changing the writing credits on his latest live album from Lennon/McCartney (as they agreed and as it's been for the past 30 years) to McCartney/Lennon? Seems awfully petty and stupid to me, no matter who wrote what. Not to mention tactless, since his writing partner's been dead for 20 years. I've also heard him whine about Yoko getting royalties on Yesterday, even though Paul wrote it all by himself. As if he needs more money.
The guy's a genius songwriter and a great bass player, but I lost some respect for him as a person over this stuff.

I read about that in the paper today and found it to be a bit tacky. Lennon and McCartney made an agreement on the songwriting credits and it has never been an issue until recently. I know McCartney was campaigning to have the names reversed on "Yesterday" when the new greatest hits album came out and Yoko said no way. Does McCartney think that everyone will suddenly understand that he was the main songwriter on these songs because his name is first on the credits?? Has there ever been any confusion about who was the main songwriter on the Beatles songs that McCartney does?? Seems trivial to me.

In actual fact, when they first started up, the songwriting credit was McCartney/Lennon. If you look at the credits for their first album "Please Please Me" I think all or a few of the originals on there are credited to McCartney/Lennon. But then they changed it to Lennon/McCartney and it stuck.

Your right, they did have it as McCartney/ Lennon at one point but, for some reason, it was changed to Lennon/McCartney and it's been that way ever since. Both Lennon and McCartney also agreed that, whomever wrote the song, both their names would be there. Also, Yesterday was released in 1965 and the songwriting credits, when it was released, were listed as Lennon/McCartney even though everyone knew it was McCartney's song. For 35 years it's never been an issue, why would it be an issue now?? I'm sure if Lennon were still here he would laugh at it and say, 'let him have his name first if it's that important to him,' but he's not. Now the only person who can speak for him is Yoko Ono and, even though her interests might be a bit self-serving, if she doesn't agree to it than it shouldn't happen.
Yeah. I don't see why it needs changing, I think everyone realises it's his song. And it is one of the most well known songs ever written.
