How he handled it is certainly important. I guess part of why I really take his side is that if it is obvious to me, some guy who never met him, that it wouldn't be his thing it should be obvious to his peers.

People like to use words like snob, elitlist and all those others terms to justify being average. The real translation of that article is: it is a lot easier to get laid if you put a pixies cd on.

According to people like the clown who wrote that most of the rest you are just one level below - maybe if you listened to the Ramones instead of Mingus you would more "hip".
Also, if you are down on Peacock for this you REALLY need to change your handle, Mingus didn't have sense of humor about his artistic sensibilites either.

Anyway, I might be a free jazz snob, but Peacock is a free jazz innovator.

Mingus didn't have sense of humor about his artistic sensibilites either.

Can't argue with that, and that's part of why I admire him so. But Mingus's circumstances were 180 degrees from Peacock's, and his sensibilities were closely tuned to his struggle as a person of mixed race. I also happen to like Mingus's compositions and personal style a lot more than Peacock's, so I don't see a comparison there. As I said earlier, I am biased.

People who are called 'snob' or 'elitist' like to make up excuses for why they are the way they are, and often have to stomp on others to do so. Too bad. I'm happily married. The music I listen to doesn't effect how often I get laid.

On a parallel, I've found that liberal people can be some of the most intolorant in the world. Ironic, no?

Spare me. There's is a difference between saying "Gary Peacock plays out of tune on ocassion" and saying "Gary Peacock looks like he got run over by a truck".

Without having heard your music at all, I would just guess that you play out of tune just as often if not more, without being the innovator he is.
I never saw Peacock's instructional video, but when I put yours on, I will no doubt marvel at your flawless C major scale.

I'll stop short of calling David Freisson a friend because I don't feel quite at liberty to. He's been to my house, sat at my dinner table with my wife and I, we've had long talks, I've had a lesson or two with him. He is a beautiful person and a wonderful musician.

He and I like different kinds of music. I enjoy seeing him play because he's a great musician and someone I like and admire. He enjoys hearing me play because he knows that I'm sincere about what I do.

I know cats and dogs who curl up together for a nap. It can be done. It's the judgement and self ritiousness that makes this all so unpallatable.

WE DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AT THE IRIDIUM. I'm sure everyone regrets it. I wasn't there and I regret it.

Everyone take a valium, put on their favorite piece of vinyl and smile knowing that there is diversity in the world!

This REALLY is off-topic, but I'll answer that for Chris . . .

While Eddie Van Halen POPULARIZED the two handed tapping technique . . . he DID NOT "invent" it. That dubious honor probably goes to his teacher, Ted Greene, who also taught the technique to Jay Graydon and several other of his (TG's) students at the time (mid '70's) . . .

So the thread is going to devolve into ******** assumptions about free jazz and free jazz musicians? A note is still a note regardless of the context. If it is in a run with a bunch of other tempered tones as well as being followed by other tempered tones it's tuning should fit the others.
As we all know that is not always as easy as it seems.
