Double Bass Peacock Blows off Costello...

Obviously you only read Dwokin's one-sided story. If you do a little more research it turns out Konitz's birthday was a few weeks prior.
The rest of the important details we don't really know about.
Why don't you ask Konitz when you see him what really happened?

Indeed. bassdogEmer is in a unique position to get the real poop. Inquiring minds want to know. Just think how much longer this thread could go on!

So we have talked about the artistic merits of all the musicians, professionalism, etc.
We have not really addressed friendship. We don't really know how tight they are. Let's just take the Costello tunes as something Peacock strongly objected to doing.
If one my very best friends was dragging out his birthday for 3 weeks and trying to get me to do something I strongly objected to, I'd tell them to go F*** themselves. I would have already gotten them a present anyway.
There are limits to what adults do for other adults birthdays anyway. A small gift or a card normally. For all we know he could taken Konitz on a harbor cruise with hookers and blow, and the Costello thing was over the line.
So I guess the question here is how far do you go for a buddy's birthday?

For a CD project I lifted several Costello arrangements from recordings from different phases of his career and found him to be a very skilled singer with a wide range, a fact that is often obscured by the relentlessly anguished quality of his voice.

On gigs that are strictly instrumental, I find that a vocalist sitting in(Costello and anyone,for that matter) usually goes
over TOO well with the audience, making the music that follows seem abstract and dull to the layman.

this personal & "real intelligent" comment, along with some of the "joke & shot" comments directed at gary peacock, based on a..."he said she said" article???

gary is one of the great jazz double bassists & innovaters of the instrument, which he has earned & alone deserves respect. beyond this he is a gracious, generous gentleman & an even greater person...a man's man without all the bravado...nuff said.

I have nothing constructive to say other than he's a musician, and has the right to pick who he wants to play with. Singers can be divas (male or female), and sometimes you just don't want to deal, no matter. Gary is one of my favorite bassists, and is a huge influence to me...If he doesn't want to play with someone, leave it be... I'm sure there have been musicians people on the board that have not wanted to play with certain people...it happens. Ah well... Dead Horse->Beaten.
