Pearl Jam songs make me nauseous

I just stared playing with a new band. First meeting went well, basic classic rock up to 90s rock.

After the meet we got a group text wanting to add Alive and Even Flow for the next meeting. I tried but both of these songs make me nauseous when I listen to them.

Reminds me when I was a kid and my father had an old Pontiac that leaked carbon monoxide into the back seat.


They both seem like the same song in a different key.
Do you guys like these songs?

90’s rock is classic rock. Boomers don’t own the genre. Plenty of 70’s stuff classified as such annoys me. In that time I opted for fusion and deep weird prog, until that got boring and stale. Then the Ramones came along in the nick of time(but I had a feeling something like them would happen anyway).
I don’t own any PJ albums(let alone Nirvana, Alice In Chains, STP, etc.), but I’d rather listen to them than Yacht Rock. How do you feel about 80’s hair metal?

Nope. I love most of the stuff out of the 90's and 2000's............. including Pearl jam.

I wasn't (and still not really) a huge fan of Pearl Jam. I bought their first two albums Ten and Vs. really liking them and even saw them live on their very first stadium tour opening for Nirvana and RHCP. After their second album I quickly lost interest and just couldn't get into their music the same way I did when they first started. I don't mind their hit songs but for me, they've been played so much that the repetitiveness of them kind of makes them stale and boring for me these days. That being said, they are great musicians with a lot of talent and creativeness, just a lot of it isn't for me.

Ok, if you say so. For me Classic Rock is the kind of stuff you hear on the Sirius Classic Vinyl station - Clapton/Cream, Led Zep, BadCo, Stones, Floyd,CCR ...

Actually I like a lot of that stuff too - Green Day, RHCP, Nirvana, STP... Just not these 2 Pearl Jam songs.

... How do you feel about 80’s hair metal?

I'm OK with 80s hair metal. Not my favorite as a lot of those bass lines are just pumping root 8th notes but I've played some. Motley Crue, Ratt ..., and would have no problem adding some of that stuff.

Those two songs you reference wouldn’t make my list if I was playing in a cover band but “Yellow Ledbetter” and “Release” would.

Agreed. "Classic rock" (which is just a marketing or radio format classification applied after the fact, anyway) always meant "pre-punk and pre-disco" music, to me. In other words, pre-1977, roughly.
Then I started hearing U2 and R.E.M. on "classic rock" radio stations. Now, I have no idea.

Yes, I like them. But regardless of that, If you’re going to do 90s rock it will be pretty hard to skip PJ.

I can't stand and dislike LZ... but at the same time I don't like to insult anyone's taste. A lot of users on here obv love and praise LZ - me eh I rather some old true Blues.

I also can't stand new country/suburban country basically fake farm music... again I don't wanna insult it if people enjoy power to them as long as they are not being jerks about it.

I will say - Grunge was one of my favs but honestly it has lost its flare for me because at the end of the day it isn't "obscure" anymore. My generation will discover Nirvana at 17 and act like they are some kind of musical genius and it hurts my head. Grunge was a marketing strategy at the end of the day.
Though I have learnt to enjoy music and separate the fans, the ideas, the vocal minority etc.

If you feel it - I would not be afraid to go to your group and tell them you aren't a fan of the song. I want to tell you I took a class I hated. Not because of the content but because of the students it was the worse, braindead morons living in an echo-chamber. To this day I wish I just went into History a topic I was passionate about - so go to your members respectfully and if y'all disagree maybe tried to prove it isn't a success and have a laugh about it.

Either way friend - things are hard for us to believe until we see it at least for me - probably my OCD/GAD but there is technique that helps me which is just challenging and using basic ideas. A lot of people heard of Pearl Jam, a lot of people are on this planet - I'm sure many feel like you.
