Peavey 410TX Worth It?

I have basslites in my 210 tx it was a good improvement on the originals. But after trialling faital in other cabs they were better but have a matching price tag. Sure eminence will recommend there own speakers for your replacement but if you call on help here you will get an impartial view of what will work in that cab. I'm also restoring an old 410tx and am toying with what to put in it......I will definitely run it by the speaker guys here or elsewhere first they helped me a treat with previous cabs...
So did you mod the cabinet to get rid of the mid scoop to make the woofers full range?

Thank you guys for all the replies. I will have a few more questions that i hope doesn't annoy to many of you. Has anyone ever seen the movie or read Stephen King's Christine. Basically i think i am treating this cab like her. I saw her all beat up and see something that probably doesn't deserve a face...
This is how all my "projects" start out.

I ran a pair of these for a number of years with different heads, I thought they sounded fine but I got tired of doing the clean and jerk lift into the truck......could get a hernia that way.

Im sure there are many fine 4x10 cabs out there that are lighter and as good as the venerable old Peavey's

I think this mod is a result of being a cheap way of getting a usable cab back due to broken tweeters that have a tendency to blow with these cabs. I intend to experiment with this with the 410 the crossover point is a little low and these cabs are really muddy when the tweeter is not functioning or off. So I can understand why it is regularly done for these cabs. My 210 had a functional tweeter and I am a fan of the bright somewhat harsh sound these tweeters can give but they quickly get too much with these cabs if you open them up imo. I left it attached and got tweeter protection and white noise filter professionally installed and did the really simple stuff myself. I'm not a wizard when It comes to wiring unfortunately. I find that the tweeter never gets opened up more than a 1/4. So I will be looking for a softer sounding option for the 410. Basslites are a good sounding speaker and using HPF transformed my 210 and hopefully your 410....... But explore the options in your price range they are not the only option.

Also, you can replace the tweeter element instead of buying a whole new tweeter if it blows. The element can be bought for about $15.

Hell i am gonna do it because i love her starting with tolexing her in red. I will run it by US Speaker. Eminence recommend's the Basslite S2010's and Beta-10a's.
I understand where you are coming from. I rehabbed a '73 Ampeg 810 flat back I paid $200 for. Nothing against Peavey, but with the time and money you'll spend there are lots of other rehab options out there on CL.

Looked like poopie and had a colony of woodlice living in it but it scrubbed up well. Everything working one speaker moves considerably more than the rest so they will all need measuring to see if there is not a mismatch going on... At worst it's a good basis for a faital pro peavey 410 of doom upgrade.....;)
Sure. The thing with the older Peavey stuff I found is it's usually cheap, sounds decent and you really don't have to worry about it getting roughed up some. Of the gear I owned it was mostly plug in and play and no worry.

Hey brothers i hope someone can help me with wiring up my 410 cab. I bought a new eden harness that has red, black and white. I want to wire them in series so do i use the red to the tweeters positive and simply move on to the woofers in series. I will post a pic of the cab. Eminence recommended legend bp104-4 for my 4 ohm setup.

I have 2 and I run full range. took crossover out and dont use tweeter. Night and day difference. If you do a little searching you will see these crossovers are different than most. I would do it again in a heart beat. got rid of the wet blanket sound and they came to life.

Brother when i am all done i will post pics of it even if i get made fun of. Im gonna tolex it red. Paint that crazy heavy grill red and leave the carpet behind the grill black. Its gonna be sick. Hopefully it sounds ok after i am done with it.
I had 2 Peavey 410 TX's. I sold them to buy something new and exciting. Biggest mistake I made since saying "I do". If I ever get another 410TX, I'll never let it go. They sounded as booming and perfect as an Ampeg HLF. But a little less weight but a lot less expensive.

I finally refinished Christine or Big Red not sure of her name just yet. Reconditioned the cab by removing carpet ,sanding, painting, and wrapped it in red tolex. Switched to four ohm 10 speakers (Eminence Legend bp102-4). I used an Eminence Tweeter (BGH25-8) that i painted red. I used an Eden jack and cross over. I totally had a blast refinishing this cab and in my opinion it sounds amazing. Produces lows i was not expecting and is super loud. Here are some pics. \m/
