had a bias pot put in to be able to adjust the biasing, I went with 7581A tubes due to the headroom they are great tubes, have them in my ampeg PF-50 and my Ampeg V4B.
Trying to get 6 tubes all matched has been a flat out PIA to get , taken 2 months to get a match 6 set.

I still have the Peavey Mace VT but I won't be of much help in making your decision aside from saying that I preferred it enough to let go of all the other tube heads you saw on page 2 of this thread. It's been out of commission for quite a while and I vaguely remember the specifics of it tonally on bass. My priorities have kept amp repair pretty low on that list due to how out of the way I need to go to find an amp tech plus not knowing how much I'd be out to get it up and running.

If the amp is priced right then why not? I never regretted the $450 I paid for mine.

I used to have a Mace VT head. This was lllooonng ago, used it for both guitar and bass. As a guitar amp, it's late 70s-eriffic, big, loud and versatile. The reverb is decent, long pan, the phaser is the best phaser out there. The ability to stop the sweep allows one to dial in some interesting tones. As a bass amp, it was pretty cool, too. The EQ was good for bass and the preamp gain level was great for dialing in a clean to semi-clean tone using one channel. The 160W tube power amp is plenty loud for most any gig, and it has a XLR direct out that has an EDI built in, which is an early cabinet simulation circuit.
You would really want to have the footswitch, for the Automix feature really makes the amp: dial the normal channel dirty-ish to dirty (it's sort of baked in to be a little mid-forward) and the effects channel clean with a solid low end and mix them for a wall of sound. It's also nice for being able to switch channels and turn the phaser and reverb on/off with the footswitch.

The main caveat would be that this is a 43ish year old amp, and unless something was done in the last 20 years or so, it may need some usual old cap/out of spec resistor maintenance, and maybe some tubes. These came stock with the killer Sylvania STR387 Super 6, which have been seen still working to this day! Knowing how most Peaveys were used over their life, it's quite probable it will need some level of attention.

Classy and grungy at the same time (both compliments, coming from me). Keeping the silver strip on the "top" was a good aesthetic call :thumbsup:

I used to own a Century, TKO combo, and a Mark IV.

A T-40 was my first real bass back in 1980.

I had a Series 400 Bass amp for a few weeks that I got in a trade, but I never gigged it. I sold it to a guy who was really into old Peavey amps.

Right now I have a Delta Bass and a Max 115 combo. I've always found Peavey amps to be sturdy, dependable, loud, and heavy. In 40+ years of gigging, I've never had a failure.

Actually, the Delta Bass amp head isn't too heavy. I run it into my Hartke 210XL, or my Avatar 210, or both.

As I was in the process of downsizing I slipped up and bought another heavy Peavey cab yesterday at a price I couldn't resist. GC in Houston sent it through a freight delivery service instead of UPS so right away I knew it was gonna be a beast to lug in. Delivered the next day instead of waiting a 5 days or more for UPS so that was nice.

Peavey 215D BW

I replaced the old squeaky casters and crumbling rubber feet using parts I've accumulated from previous Peavey 412 guitar cabs I've owned. I thought I had another spare metal Peavey logo in my parts box but that must've gone on the Combo 300 when I got it. I'm selling it eventually so I guess I'll steal the logo back from the combo and toss it on the cab.

That's only $10 more than I paid for my 215D with Scorpions - not counting the $$ for diesel in my old Suburban for the ~180 mi. round trip to the bay area & back

Hello

I bought an old Peavey 300 bass amp from the 70's - it needs work, and I knew that when I bought it. But it was bought because it was the first amp I bought in the 70's.

Anyway, it did not have the rubber feet on it or the screws - so it does not fasten into the box. Would anyone happen to know what screws to use to attach the feet and screw into the chassis.
