The string tree being a bar instead of the triangle is another marker for what part of the 80s its from now that I think about it. Its a nice one none the less and I hope eaglemoon goes for it!

I just wrote and asked for the serial number. Can't quite see it in the picture I have of the back of the headstock.

Here it is! At least some bad pics until I can get some in better light.
Having a couple of problems though. The volume pot for the front pickup cuts out when you turn it to around the 9 position when both pickups are on. It doesn't do it if you only have the one pickup on though. And the output jack is cutting out if I push on the cord. Other than a bit of screw and bridge rust, I like it. The neck is great! The Super Ferrites sound very P bass-ish.

EagleMoon, I have the same bass. You will never need more. Which explains why I just ended up with another debt to Ebay for a 4th Foundation. But I do love my maple sunburst.
I'm very impressed so far with the quality of the bass, even with the little problems it's got. I can tell this bass has really been played and used, considering the amount of rust on it
But still, it just feels like it belongs in my hands.
All the USA Peaveys are great basses, much under rated.

What a pretty pretty pretty Foundation, Eaglemoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Minor problems aside you scored big time with that baby. That bass will grow on you more and more as time goes by. It boggles my mind to see people selling them to be honest. LOL Course I should talk, Im about to let 2 of my Foundations go if I ever get off my butt and post pics (hey ok Im sick right now, thats the latest setback), But I got a killer black/rosewood/maple '85 so I made sure I had one before I let the others go. Foundations are very underestimated and overlooked IMO.

And hopefully now that you've held a wonderful Foundation in your hands you see my dilemma regarding my red '92s? ^_^ Killer basses in neck and sound and feel and everything but the color, the shape of the 90s headstocks. They just weren't cutting it for me aesthetically. And I kept trying to tell myself that looks don't matter but when its all said and done, they do...funny thing was my Foundation5 I intentionally got because it was the same year and color as my RED 92 4string...:scowl: Im a dork sometimes I think LOL And I ran the gambit on what to do with them and people here had to listen to me whine about it and all. But thanks to Bluesrx here on the board I got my black beauty. ^_^
Oh yea I hate red EVERYTHING ... reds only good for blood and xmas decorations...
but my car is R E D and like the 2nd brightest shade of red in automotive history :scowl: my Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino. Bluesrx saw it that day when we met up to exchange for the Peavey cab and yummy Foundation.Oooooooooooooooooooo

So to take this to the Fender extreme, we are dealing with. black body, rosewood neck, matching black headstock w/white pinstripe, black speed knobs, 5 hole rear coverplate, Superferrites ( or I wouldn't of even bothered), big barrel bridge, the smaller, butterfly shaped tuners. I know, no pics, no bass?

Nice ^_^ My black Foundation is all that but the back of the neck and headstock is a real dark maple. (that and the knobs were swapped out for J knobs (the black plastic chicken head ones I think they are called) which looks really cool actually). My other black basses are all black on black and rosewood but I like how the back of the neck on mine is maple. If nothing else it helps me distinguish it from its twin Dynabass at a glance.

I must be getting older because I really love the light weight of the '90's Foundations. I don't intend on ever letting my '87 go, but I really prefer my '92 and '94. I also like that they changed the pickups, this way I can switch basses and get different tones with the same feel. I am starting to think I may actually have to get rid of some of my fenders because they just don't have the presence of my Peavey's.

Do you think the lower weight on the 90s models was due to lower mass (a different neck and body carve) or the switch from poplar to alder in '92? Does your '94 have the newer pups? My '93 has super ferrites, so that might have been the last year for those if so.

You know I havent really paid attention to the weight of my 85 vs my 92. I haven't picked up my 92 in a while. Off hand I would say it is lighter but not a whole lot. And well, its really lighter now since I took the bridge and machines heads off of it Yea Im stripping my 92 for parts. Anyone want a 92 Foundation neck cheap?

I'm sure the size of the body has the most effect on the weight, but I think some of the hardware is also lighter. The tuners and bridge look slightly smaller and lighter. The '94 has soapbar style pickups, but I am pretty sure they are still single coil. It has slighly less output, and a bit more warmth in the bottom end then the '92 with superferrites. I like the '92 better, but my bandmates prefer the '94. They both play and sound great and were the best buys I have ever made at under $100 each.
Size to lightness usually is consistant but, I have Foundations in Maple, Mahogany, and 2 Poplars and all have a noticable difference in weight from the lighter poplars then the mahogany then the maple body which weighs me down like a 70's PBass. I'm really diggin' my new purchase ( see above) having just come upstairs from the basement after tweaking it out a little. Its nice to have a rosewood board again.
