I scored a 13 year old foundation on Ebay and it was sitting in the closet all that time; MINT.
I put flatwounds on it, and it THUMPS. Big sound.
And much lighter than a T-40.

I had one and would still have it if it weren't for that small spacing on the neck. I have 4 other Foundation 4's, so I definitely appreciate the genre.

If you like a P-bass, the Fury is the same as a Foundation but with a split pickup. They are dirt cheap too. 
Never played a 5'er but my maple necked 4 is incredible. I love the necks on these babies, most comfortable ever IMHO. I wouldn't mind another one actually.

Back in the 90's, I took a white / maple Fury and put an EMG Select P pickup in it, along with an EMG active BTC tone circuit, and an upgraded bridge. Total of about $400 in the bass, and it just rocked, extremely punchy. For what I played back then, rock with a lot of funk influence (slapping), and a lot of tapping unison solos with a guitarist in a power trio, it was just perfect. Slim, fast neck and great rock tone.
If I did it again now, it would be Bartolini stuff instead of EMG, since my playing and tastes have changed. But I'll never forget what a great little instrument that was.

Barts would be way cool in a foundation/fury! They are my favorite pick ups. I have a lakland skyline 55-05 with barts, my cheap foundation sounds very simular with the stock passive pickups. I like my foundation better than the lakland due to the closer string spacing. It's alot faster than the skyline. More expensive doesn't seem to be better for my bass taste.
It's important to remember that most USA Peavey's are "inexpensive" to purchase, but they are FAR from cheap in any other way.
IMHO, without a doubt most any USA Peavey is way undervalued. It is a situation that makes me sad...and happy. After all I can afford several Peaveys, and I will always be able to get my money back for them easily. My sadness is from the fact that they are very much unappreciated in quality.

I miss my '84 Foundation. Sniff. I sold it to 'make room' for my Cirrus-back when my wife was a little less understanding of G.A.S. I just told the guy I sold it to that if he ever decided to sell it-I had first dibs. I didn't want to sell it-I would rather have sold my Dyna...so I told him that I'd sell either one for $300...thinking he'd pick the Dyna for its better hardware and active eq. I was heartbroke when he said, "Okay, I'll take the Foundation." I'll have another one, someday. Maybe after a Paladeum and B-Quad...

I have 7 USA foundations, some 4's some 5's. Three in standard tuning, two in E flat and one in D. One is out of commision because I wore the frets down to a nub. I use lager strings for the ones tuned lower. There is a huge difference in the sound between the ones that have rose wood boards and the maple boards. My baby is the 1995 black 5 string with the maple board. Oh yeah all my basses are black. I think I have less than $1000.00 in the lot of them. Less than the cost of one music man of fender usa jazz. They are bullet proof as well.

I have never played one but if I see one I will be sure to get it. In the meantime that is what my Zodiac is for.

Does anyone know what the string spacing at the bridge is specifically? And are these the super ferrites in the soapbar cover that I heard they used for a while around that time?

If I was a mod I'd of deleted this thread at the first post. Foundations often go for less than $200 and this one looks like it has cooties so I don't think there will be any more bids... until the last few seconds
