I am now the proud owner of a Peavey Megabass and 1516 cabinet!

I was recently gifted this setup, and I'm hoping that it's alright to ask here about an issue that I am having with it. I have been having a rough time finding what I need online/on youtube.

After adjusting the crossover frequency and making sure I was using the proper settings and outputs to the amp, I noticed that the overall volume wasn't nearly what I expected. As I was dinking with it the volume started to fade down to nothing, and now there is no noticeable sound when I turn the unit on. I have switched the settings and cables between biamp and full range, tried different cables, put a fresh battery in the bass, and tried using what I believe is called a trs to dual ts cable to connect an ABY switch in an attempt to bridge the send/return, on the off chance that was the reason for the lack of volume.

I would have to drive probably 350+ miles to find a shop that could help me out, and I'd love to avoid that if at all possible! Thank you so much for any ideas or help!

The only other thing I'd suggest is; try to go out the send(w/ a patch cord) to the Full Range Power Amp input to bypass the Bright/Punch switches and the EQ to eliminate them as problem sources.
Looks as though you already checked the send return Jack that was the source of the problem with my 1st $10.00 MegaBass head.
There is a couple of fuses inside you could check but, I doubt if that is your problem.
May have to find a Tech or better yet, send it to Peavey. Sending it to Peavey may be cheaper than most shops/technicians,LOL.

Trying the patch cord how you suggested sadly didn't help... So it looks like I do just need to service it. I'm in Alaska so sending it to Peavey is out of the question due to shipping costs, so I have to decide if I want to have someone in town (there isn't someone that focuses on amps here) look at it, or if I should wait and take it with me the next time I travel out of state and have it serviced then!

Mines heavy enough that I don’t want to pull it out of the rack. The debate in being helpful and the agony of lifting it out of the rack has been my debate since this post was made.

if no one comes up with the answer soon I’ll grab the drill tomorrow.

The MegaBass seems heavier than 26 lbs, IMO. My #1 MegaBass is currently being driven from the Pre-Amp out of my Ampeg SVT-3Pro into it's Full Range Pwr-Amp input. My #2 is Racked together and driven the same way from a Peavey T-Max Head. These Rigs have to weigh 60 to 70 lbs but, have been very dependable and sound fantastic. Enough Power for any setting.

Awesome Rig ! Do you normally run it full range(I would) or do you run it Bi-Amped ?

I don't think anyone is Moderating this Club, I just made my own # up.

I ran mine Bi-amped into a 1516 cab, with the low end on the 15 and the high end on the twin 8's. I can't remember where I had the crossover set, but I remember tweaking it now and then to get the tone I was after.

I still have a 1516 Cabinet that I got with my 2nd MegaBass head. I got it locally a few years ago from Chrome Dome right here on TalkBass. Great little Cabinet. He had replaced the 15 or it was replaced when he got it, cant remember. The SWR 15" that's in it now works fine. When I bi-amped it, I ran the X-over at minimum, 200 hz. I normally run it full range because I'm afraid I'd blow it running both the Amps in the Mega. I like it Loud, probably too Loud, LOL.

I full range it and push the 410 post gain more than the 210. It's a very VERY mid-range dominant setup, therefore the extreme scooping on the EQ.

Yes, once I looked at the settings I assumed that's what was going on. I'd bet it Kicks Ass. Those !0's you got there are some really good speakers. I swapped the 4 Peavey 10's I had into my Ampeg 410 HLF Cabinet so my HLF cabinet would be 8 ohms. Both Cabinets seem better with the Swap. The old 90 pound Peavey Cabinet won't be seeing any gigs any time soon. It will live here in the rehearsal studio forever. The 410 HLF has the towel holder handle and the tilt back and roll away wheels.
My current Main setup is the Tech 21 Ultra Bass 1000 dUg Amp. It is a Ripping 1000 watts RMS @ 4 ohms so I needed two 8 ohm cabinets that could handle that much power without burning up voice coils. I'm using the Tech 21 4 x 10 and the Ampeg 410 HLF that is loaded with the Peavey 10's. If it's a large stage, I can always slave a MEGABASS and more Cabinets. Eight 10's usually get's er' done.

27.2 lbs is what my scale says. Just got one from my boss who owns a music store. Threw in a carcass too for parts.
