Peavey T-40 Club Part 2

First off, I know little about these basses other than they weigh a ton and sound great...that said, a question - there's an 80-something B'nM T-40 hanging in the GC here that I've been thinking about; it's definitely been played but isn't trashed that I can see; IMO it needs new strings and a setup; I don't know if there's a case or not. They want $400. I've done a few quick and dirty ebay searches and the class-ads here, and that seems a bit steep'ish. I'm not necessarily asking for a specific value, but what are 80-something T-40s generically worth?

There it is...near perfect condition...will post serial numbers when I get to the studio to figure out the year...plays like a dream, and yes...heavy :)

Man, thanks! I've been looking for the right T-40 for about 6 months now...wanted a rosewood fingerboard...I was leaning toward a white one with rosewood, but the right one never came my way...I like this one...near perfect condition...the neck is so sweet...LOVE the way it plays...it has some noisy pots and switches and needs a bit of a setup...I like heavier gauge strings...gotta start with heavy roundwounds, but I have a strange feeling this bass is gonna prefer flats. And the controls? I really need to learn those...lots of very minor tweaks...never seen passive controls that react to very slight tweaks the way this thing does.

I've a developed terrible GAS for T-40: I love the tone, I love the look and I think I could bear the weight. Only problem is, I live in Finland and I'm a bit afraid of ordering something used overseas from a stranger. I know that if I were to order from someone from TB with decent feedback or an ebay seller with 100 % positive reviews, the chances of getting scammed would be minimal. But alas, I'm a poor uni student for whom even the idea of risking 300 - 400 euros feels unbearable. Ugh! I'm currently fishing for one locally with no luck so far.

Also, I'd love to own one with a tobacco sunburst, sienna or transparent red finish - not natural or black like 90 % of the offers - with a maple neck. :( What to do? WHAT TO DO? :confused:

I don't see black/rosewood often...rosewood is a must for me if I'm gonna use roundwounds. I will say these basses are built like tanks and seem to run consistent...so you can order would sight unseen with a little more confidence than alot of other basses I could think of.

I think I can count on one hand how many T 40's with rosewood necks I have ever seen, of any color!

Picked this up tonight for $300. Well, I traded a keyboard that I don't use and paid $150 for it. It's a 1979, pretty good condition for its age. Has its share of scratches, dings, etc, but they're mostly around the edges and on the sides. The front and back are clean.

Needs a good setup and some new strings, but overall a solid buy. Always thought they looked pretty awesome, which I suppose is due to the pickguard and toasters, since the body shape is pretty generic. It's also as heavy as everyone says it is! The bridge looks like it probably weighs 4 or 5 pounds alone.
