Lucky...I boiled the strings that were on mine since none of the strings I had were long enough and the stuff that was floating on top :eek: some of the red silk coloring wore off too so there was indescribable light pink crud on the edges of the pot I was using.

Just plugged it in and am VERY impressed. The controls are similar to a Rickenbackers and I can get the same sort of tone with the flip of a switch. I played Silly Love Songs and the sound wasnt close, it was SPOT ON :hyper: I go through a ton of bases yearly, but this one may be a keeper. I stole it at $260 :D

I feel you. I snagged a black one in really good condition this week for *gasp* 420 dollars. :hmm: My situation is different though since I had to search for international sellers. Oh well, I don't feel robbed or anything as long as the bass itself is in good shape.

Goddamn USPS tracking, why are you so useless?! :bawl: I have no idea if the bass will arrive next week or after that or what.

I'm of the same opinion, brother. I paid less than $250 for a natural '78 with the old square orange-lined case, and feel that the price for natural T-40s have been steep of late.

It may be a niche market, but I think eBay sellers have recognized that these basses DO have a considerable following. So long as we continue to pay $400+ for naturals, that'll continue to be the asking price.

I'd love a sienna burst in the $400 range! On the bright side, we have 30 year old American-made instruments, and the value is continuing to go up. Todd and the gang appear to have no plans to re-release the '40, so I think we can rest assured that the prices will continue to climb.

Killing time waiting for my precious T-40 to arrive I did some mock-ups for a possible refinish of my soon-to-be-mine black bass:

I'm torn between the purple burst and the plain, good ol' seafoam green. Some metallic sparkle could look awesome too. What do you guys think? On the other hand, I'll have to see if my eyes get used to the factory black. If anyone wants, I can upload the .psd file for those who are thinking of refinishing their own.

Actually, has anyone refinished theirs in a non-stock color? Would love to see some pics! :bassist:

Actually my favorites were the green burst and the solid purple.

+1, I got a carvin body thats got a kinda teal/seafom color to it, and I love it. Look at it in one light its green, another its blue. No cheesy colorshifting paint, its just perfectly in between the two colors. GO FOR IT!

The T-40 didn't come in enough colors, the natural was just too boring :D

Whoopee! My bass arrived on Tuesday - took only a week for it to ship from the States to Finland. :eek: This beauty is from 1981 and in a really great shape. The body has a few dings and some belt rash but nothing really visible. I'm going to take it a luthier on Monday to get it refinished, just have to decide on the color.

I know it's a T40 thread but dayyuum that is one hot Carvin. It deserves its very own thread if you haven't done one yet.
