Peavey T-40 Club Part 2

I'm torn between the purple burst and the plain, good ol' seafoam green. Some metallic sparkle could look awesome too. What do you guys think? On the other hand, I'll have to see if my eyes get used to the factory black. If anyone wants, I can upload the .psd file for those who are thinking of refinishing their own.

Actually, has anyone refinished theirs in a non-stock color? Would love to see some pics! :bassist:

Landed on here, as a big T-40 fan and thought how great these
pics looked and the later added green and then after a second look. . . . . . . .
I thought, hey, "That's Chalky!!" Here he is in White.:hyper:

I just received a T-40 from eBay... natural with both a factory fretless neck AND maple neck... the necks have the same serial number! I'll get pics, but that puts me at 3 T-40's for the time being, but I think I'm going to do some neck swapping and sell one. Just not the FL neck, it's too nice to not keep!

I think T-40's use 250k pots. I'm not sure if they're linear or audio taper, and I've never replaced them, but CTS is the only brand I've bought for my other projects, and I like them a lot.

Here it is! I love how it came out! The luthier did an excellent job with the refinish - I couldn't be happier. :hyper:

Just got my first T-40 yesterday :hyper: Body finish is worn, but neck finish is nearly perfect. Surprisingly, no dents or chips. Intact except for one screw and truss cover. Included OHSC too ! Oozes mojo ! Here`s the kicker...got it for $140 :D

Question: has a brass nut, and looks like brass frets ?

This looks great. Although not my favorite color, it looks great on that -40. You have a truly unique instrument there. Congrats.

I don't think you could have asked for a nicer finishing job. By all accounts, that's flawless! I'm not a surf color guy, but that looks great!

Great to hear the term "mojo" in reference to T-40s. Usually a term reserved for old Fenders. $140 is a steal. You should probably keep your eyes peeled for cops when you play that thing! My '80 has a brass nut too, but not the frets. A bass with that kinda real-life relicing may have ad more than one fret job.

After some setup adjustments and a new set of strings....holy Smokes ! This bass is so frickin` cool ! I can`t believe the array of tones on tap. Fave setup so far is bridge w/ tone up, neck w/ tone rolled off - toggling the switch between a solo`d pup and blended. The coil / phase switch adds a little extra dynamic when used with a little distortion. The solo`d neck pup sounds like a P on PEDs. It`s not exactly comfortable, and I haven`t even tried playing standing up, but it sounds so good ! I had a T-20 about a year ago, and was not very impressed with it. Another plus: I`ve never liked maple necks. Maple just always sounds clacky when I play `em; this is the first maple neck I`ve played that isn`t, for whatever reason (the fret alloy, maybe ?). This is a first impression after about an hour playing - I really hope I`m right about this thing...if I am, I have a new favorite bass :) Welcome to the cult of T-40.

Thanks for all the praise! Going to try her out in a band setting on Sunday - really can't wait!

I have one gripe with this specific bass though: my luthier said that the neck can't handle Ernie Ball's Super Slinkies (100-80-65-45) so he put in 95 and 40. He also said that the truss rod is one of the worst kind he's ever seen because it doesn't add support to the high fret area causing a slight bow there. Thankfully the smaller gauge strings are more than playable and he set up the action ultra low so it's a wonderful thing to play.
