Two years ago I paid about $400 for mine, which is a '78. I suspect there was some shill bidding involved, because the winner backed out and I got second chance. It was worth it, though. It's a great studio bass for the stuff I play, and I wish I'd had the use of it long ago. An engineer I worked with recently tried to buy it off me.

There was a SiennaBurst like mine last year that still had the original film (with instructions) on eBay last year (or maybe 2 years ago) that got bid up $625.
yeah, as dangnewt said "really nice ones" go for more, especially rare finishes like the sienna burst or burgundy, rosewood fretboards, and having original pickguard plastic

It def. needs work, missing 2 ferrules, 2 tuners, and the electronics look rewired from the pics they have on the listing. But still its a red and rosewood t-40 waiting for lovin.

I've been watching these basses come and go for two months straight now. I was dying to get my hands on one in natural oil... then I won a beautiful sunburst a few hours ago on ebay.

I just got one! Natural body, maple board, saw it at a shop awhile ago just decided to look up info on her, just got back from snagging it. I have a slab body, 00321126 SN stamped nothing else on the back of the head, PAF and Made in USA on the front, toaster pups, drilled dots on guard. What year is it? Guessing a late 70's?
He Had a white with R/W board for cheap but missing knobs, newer with patents on back, blade pups, switches were broken, missing a gear/peg assembly on the one tuner, body was beat to hell and weighed maybe 2-3 lbs more then this natural one!

Definitely a late 70s. They started putting D-strings on T-40s standard in the '80s.

My t-40 has had a bit of a resurgence recently. I normally leave it at home since it's in great shape and I don't want to loose it. Thus, it only makes it to some practices and recordings. However realizing that it needs to be played, I've brought it to the last 3 gigs with my country band. A huge Ribfest as an opener for Leanne Rimes, a Hippie/Biker fest and a 3 hour state fair gig.
I had forgotten how good this thing sounds live. I thought I'd be switching back and forth between this and the other bass I brought, but my 79 t-40 got almost all the playing time!

Man though not a T40 I found a older USA Peavey Patriot (late version of a T20) for $75.00 yesterday to go w the T40
Number please! Anyone have experience with pyramid flats on these?
I used GHS Precision Flats on mine, sounded great, never shelled out the dough for the Pyramids.
Got some great tones out of it, some from the bridge were even surprising how much it could sound like playing with rounds (if they had tone rolled off a little of course) To sum up: good flats on T-40 = awesome

Jezebel looks great for her age - it is easy to tell that you take good care of her (and I suspect vice-versa).

I can't really take credit. I only got her about five months ago...and she's older than I am. Never checked the number, but I'm assuming around an '81 or '82. My vintage is '89. lol
I thought you T-40 fanatics might like to know there is a Red or Burgandy T-40 online at GC. I would have bought it but I just bought a sunburst one. You might be able to see it at this link.

I realigned them and adjusted the height and they all sound wonderful... but now the action is kind of weird. The strings are really low for the first few frets, but are fairly high after the 12th fret.
I want to have lower action, but no fret buzz!
The intonation is off a bit, too. It could probably use a truss rod adjustment...
