Well this has been seen and talked about quite a bit over the last 2-3 days in my “NBD” thread. My inexpensive find, 1979 T-40.

I’ve worked on making it super clean the last 72 hours. New strings are on way which leads me to my first question. The through body stringing requires extra long or super long scale strings yes? I cannot find very many choices. I prefer nickel and would like to hear what people are using?

Funny how that thread you mentioned devolved into a T-40 BashFest. Pathetic IMO wish I had the time to thank all of those peeps for their completely unwanted opinions lol

Guys, jealousy is an ugly emotion all T40 owners have to deal with at some time. Don't get mad at them, pity them for their lose.

Agreed... we (as T-40 owners) should be the "bigger people" and approach the haters' consternation rationally.

I saw very little evidence of hate, mostly sound reasoning that $1700 for a refin T-40 with debatible taste in PG was unrealistic.

Those folks were of course correct.

13 T-40s have sold on eBay in the last 3 months, 10 of those went for under $800.

Hence the word, "some" hate. Which they are entitled too. From what I have seen, T-40s in great shape can sell near $1,000. That may be a little steep, but not crazy, in my estimation. These basses will be getting harder and harder to find, especially ones in nice condition. Now, the $1,700 one... I don't think so. Especially after they had pretty much "un-T-40d" it. Kills the vintage vibe.

There were plenty of the usual T-40 weight jokes in that thread. Yes, they tend to be heavy. Those ash bodied Fenders from the late 70's were damn heavy too. So were Stingrays. So was everything Gibson was making at the time. So were Rics...

Dude... Thank You! I understand the 40s are considered to be "heavy", but the whining is getting old. I'm pushin' 60, not a big guy, and I don't let weight keep me from a bass I love. Don't get me started!

I've owned plenty of them over the years and outside of this group, and possibly 2 others, T-40s are not thought of well nor fondly. Always made a point of handing a T-40 to every player visiting my humble abode; not once did anybody take up the offer to borrow one.

Could have tried to salve my bruised ego by saying "Their loss" or " don't know what they're missing", simple truth is most folk just aren't interested.

Hey folks,

Picking up my first T40 this weekend. Serial Number is 01136462. From what I have briefly read, seems as though this would be a 1981 release. I do need to replace the phase toggle switch as it is broken, any suggestions for a part that would be fairly authentic?

I've seen authentic T-40/ T-60 switches for sale on Ebay & Reverb.
