I asked about replacig my (somewhat) dead DR Low-Riders, and heard back:
Excellent question. It made me think a fair amount. And after all that the best I can come up with is:
... Articulate, great big midrange with a very smooth top end, no harshness and not muddy or boomy.
Is that helpful?
In other news, the DR's are muddy-ish with the tones at 10, but backed off to 7 they sound a lot nicer. Back the volume pots off to 9 or so and it gets even better.

Hi - I'd love to join the club. I've had my T-40 for a good 19 years now, and it is yet to let me down!
Ok here the 1983 (unstringed at that time) T-40 I bought Saturday.
It was a batch deal and I got a Foundation at the same time.
I am going to give this bass a chance. Note that I have issues with the electronic. I am looking for a knowledgeable luthier or Peavey owner in the Phoenix area to help me fix this.

Sweet. Oh yea did you know that the solid colored T40s like yours are a couple pounds lighter then the bursts and naturals? Because they were slotted to be painted solid woodgrain wasn't a huge issue and a slightly lighter wood was used for their bodies instead...just a little trivia for you. ^_^
Well I did try to practice with this instrument tonight, and that was a nice FAIL.
I was back to RBX territory.
I will need a truss rod adjustment tool, especially for the Foundie. Is this something I can find at GC? Or do I have to order online?

Sweetwater.com I believe has the trussrod wrenches that will work for the older Peaveys. I know Peavey sells them too but they have gone up in price a bit recently.
oh and RBX territory isn't bad. IVe got my RBX200 sitting next to me right now...been practicing unplugged most of the night back and forth between surfing here and around.

You'll find the truss rod wrench for the T-40 Invalid Link Removed. It's the item #6106, for 5/16" Gibson nut. Don't know if it works for the Foundation as well.
