Peavey T-40 Club

The Foundie has a very twangy sound (unless you have the tone and bridge pu at 0), very cool with new strings and a tad bit of reverb.

The pickups are single coil Super Ferrites. You need to take some pictures, also maybe give us the serial number. The 80s Peavey were numbered incrementally and you can tell what year they are this way.

I love my 1983 Foundie.

Here it is.

Buy it. That's the one with the SF pickups (you can almost read it on the picture) and the big bridge.

The one I got I paid $150 and it is not as nice as this one. $160 is a steal.

Check out this one on eBay:

He wants too much for it but in a couple years they should go for $400 easily.

This one is better priced:

Really, if the pickups work, just buy it eyes closed.

So when do we start a Foundation club?

Hi fellow Peavey T-40 enthusiasts. I just joined today. I picked up a T-40 off Ebay a couple days ago. I paid $280.00 w/ free shipping. After I bid on this one I saw one w/ a case for $325.00. I've been doing research on the bass since I bid on it. I can't wait to get it. I think the free shipping is via turtle train!!! Anyway, I will post pics once it is in my possesion.

Big your #53. Defenitly post pictures when it gets there. Nick if I could afford it would probally already be at my house. I just can't come up with the money. Like I said I have a total of $17 and some change. Plus I have nothing to trade. This GAS sucks so bad.

I have promised myself to never have more than 3 basses.

I got the two Peavey to go with the RBX and thought I would sell one of the two Peaveys.

But I think the RBX is going bye bye soon.

When I searched "Peavey T-40 bass" on Google, Your Youtube bites are like the third on the list. I checked them out. Awesome cover of Cupid's Dead. When I saw the T-40 go head to head with the Rik, I knew I made a good decision when I bid on my T-40 on Ebay. What strings are you using??

Yea me too..

Sienna was a specialty ordered color combo... stores did not stock them since it was a cost upgrade.

Tim
Thanks for the update on the toggles. That's an interesting bit of info.

As for colors, alot of folks like black, but it's not very rare. Rosewood is not super rare, but defiately far less common than maple.

I don't think anyone has this information, but I would be interested to know what colors rosewood was installed on, and in what quantities. Off the top of my head, I know I've seen rosewood on traditional sunburst, natural, and white, but it very well may have been on other finishes as well.

I'd sell a kidney for a rosewood board siena sunburst!

Maple. If I remember, it is in excellent condition. I won it on Ebay around Thanksgiving. I haven't looked at it since I got it. The only FLAW is, according to the previous owner, the PEAVEY LOGO was removed. The MADE IN USA part is still is there. The reason given was that he was a "PRO PLAYER and didn't want to endorse any brand".

I contacted Chip when I got it and he said, just send him the neck and he'd put the logo back on it. I just never got to it. Then the Holidays hit, and I haven't looked at it since.

The pickups LOOK like Super Ferrite pickups, but do NOT SAY SUPER FERRITE on them. I've never even hooked it up to an amp. For all I know they are killer, but I'm a 4 string player, and just haven't taken the time to start messing with the 5er.
YES, I know.....BAD! :hiding:

If it doesnt say Superferrite then its not a superferrite. ^_^ Im not sure when the ferrites left and the soapbars came in but Im thinking '93. My two red Foundies are '92 and they both have the ferrites. And too bad your black 5er has a maple neck. If it was rosewood we might could have just traded. LOL Yea you would have gotten the better end of the deal most I think would say but Id would be happier with the black/rosewood then the red/maple and Ive heard the soapbar pups aren't bad either and uhm, well, like every peavey I own save my T40 has.....Superferrites. LOL What a unique 'complaint', right? :hiding:

Could the natural one be alder? Maybe a 1-off by the factory or a strip and refinish by a previous owner?

I asked my luthier about a strip & refin...he said "Highly doubtful." There wasn't ANY trace of any color in the control cavity. The back of the bass has MULTIPLE little dings & dents. No signs of a refin anywhere....he even used some jewelers glasses to see if he could spot sand marks, all appears original. All it has is a thin coat of matte clear coat. Just like my other Maple T-40's had.

Ok, here is my other oddball....Here is my Foundation 5, first time I've seen it since I bought it. I usually clean them up real well when I get them, but it was Thanksgiving week and I just never got around to doing ANYTHING to it. I nailed it for a BIN with the case on Ebay for $150.00 with free shipping. I THOUGHT the pups were SUPER FERRITE, but all these guys say on them is PEAVEY. Are these soapbars? I've seen newer foundations that have pickups that are different from these as well.

The pictures in the Ebay ad were cell phone shots, not clear at all. SO, I took a chance. I had NO IDEA Peavey made pickups that LOOKED like Super Ferrite pickups...live & learn I guess!

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok thats different. At least in my meager experience that is different. Those aren't the soapbars. Im not sure what they are. LOL

Thats a pretty Foundy5 even without the rosewood fretboard....mmmmm....mmmmm.... *looking at her red one*....

You know there is a thread around called called the Foundation database thread. I suggest posting pics of that on that thread and seeing who might know about those. Let me dig that thread up.
