Been longing for this beast for a long time, last time i was eyeballing them on ebay they were in 300$ range. Now the price jumped to whopping 650$, include shipping and customs cost to get it to Croatia and the price ends in $950 ballpark. Is it really worth such money?

I think I paid $350.00 for a brand new T-40 in the 80's. They are heavy, but all in all they are fine instruments. The playability is good, but I'm not sure if $950.00 is a good deal on a 30 year old bass. You'd probably be the only kid on your block with one, which may hold a certain appeal.

Well.....as a new owner of a 79 T40, here's my 2 cents:

Yup, it's heavy as all get out. However, I've been thumping around on mine since I got it and I'm stunned with how many tones you can get out of ONE bass once you figure out how to dial it in. I've thrown about 4 different brands/types of strings on it as well and the "range" of this one behemoth of a bass is pretty darn impressive. Plus, it's an AMERICA MADE guitar. If you could turn an ancient Spartan warrior into a guitar; it would be a T40. The one I own has the natural finish and I think she is a knock out. Heck, I have her in my office at work on a stand just so I can glance at her during the day.

I'd say, if you find one (a good one), have the money to spend- go for it. I'm not disappointed w/mine and she might get gigged this weekend. I just got to take some notes on which knob is turned in what position and which toggle switch needs to be where to get the sound I want according to what we're going to be playing.

You can find good ones (in the US) in the $400-$500 range. They ARE heavy!
Give us a breakdown of your $950 ....how much is actually the US bass price?
If it's minty with all the shipping and customs might not be bad in reality.
Can you name some US shops with used instruments which ship internationally (no ebay)?
This 650$ one is in excellent condition, almost unused.

I'm in almost the same boat as rogypop. Herr in the UK "IF" a T 40 comes up for sale the price from £450 upwards, say $720 to $750.
That's generally with no original case and well used.

Now there's 11 for sale on ebay just now ranging from $240 with 4 days left to $659 BIN.Average price is around $600, shipping and
taxes to the UK add another $250 - $300. As Croatia is further than the UK the extra $50 can be expected.

The hard facts are these are difficult to get in Europe and we have to pay the price. I bought a Patriot for $170 then another $100
for shipping,$250 for a T 20 + $130 shipping.

Way I see it $900 is far better than the $2140 asking price for an 80's Fender P bass.

If you try looking on basschat.co.uk there's a thread about importing basses from the States. I can't say I've seen anyone mention shipping
to Croatia but there's lots of us Europeans use the site.

Good Luck in your search

Thanks on advice kBlair! :-)

If your persistent and know we're to look they can still be found for under $400
It's the one bass I've sold and wish I had not but I had to sell 5 basses to finance my Cortobass build and yes it was worth all 5 basses.
