Peeing In The Sink To Save Water?

The crabs are here cause El Nino is coming. (Warm water currents brought them further North than usual) I am calling that California will have a lot of rain next winter. The experts are saying all that rain Texas just had is also El Nino related.

I know that the media is making it out to sound like Californians are planning a mass exodus but I've never heard that kind of talk from actual Californians. We could learn a lesson or two from you desert dwellers. A pretty green lawn really isn't that important.

Cutting grass on a weekly basis seems like such a futile waste of my time. I DESPISE the sound of lawnmowers and leafblowers ... one of the reasons I moved to places surrounded by concrete. Let the city maintain the parks I go to throw a frisbee in, and take it out of my tax dollars.

Ok, I need help. As I stated some pages ago, Mr blastoff pees in the sink. Whether or not this is to save water I don't know; perhaps it's something he does just because he can. As I also stated some pages ago, he doesn't rinse. Today, with the house rather warm, I got a good whiff when I went to the laundry room. I asked Mr blastoff, if he is going to continue to pee in the sink as he has for years, to please rinse after.

Mr blastoff looked at me and angrily denied EVER peeing in the sink.

Butbutbut!!!

I looked at the dog and ruled him out as a suspect. I am an implausible suspect. To the best of my knowledge nobody is breaking in mid-morning and peeing in the laundry room utility sink. Today is not garbage or recycling day, so I think we can rule out those dudes. The UPS lady is rather vertically challenged, and besides, she's usually here mid-afternoon.

Mr blastoff pees in the sink. I KNOW this. I have heard it. I have smelled it. He does it often. He never rinses. He denies it.

How can I get him to either rinse or quit? I don't think this is (you-know-what) envy; I don't begrudge a guy if he should want to pee against a tree while working outdoors because a) he can and b) it's inconvenient to walk inside or c) he's trying to deter coyotes, or write his name in the snow, or whatever. But peeing in the sink when he is on his way upstairs to where the bathrooms are? Really? And then claiming he's not doing it? Does he think I'm completely stupid?

Please advise.

How about a litterbox under the sink?

I certainly hope you're right. We're long overdue for a proper El Niño. It would be a shot-in-the-arm for parched California.

Meanwhile, Californians are doing some pretty goofy things with water-rationing (besides using the sink for a urinal).

On of my neighbors decided to wash his SUV inside the garage!

Now theres something ya dont see everyday! The guy says by washing inside the garage, he estimates he uses less than 7 gallons.

Oh man. THATS what I call some serious water conservation. Hopefully when El Niño comes, we can all resume some degree of normalcy to our lives.

I have been getting my cars washed at the professional car wash. The recycle their water so there is very little waste. Also, I can sit on my butt and watch instead of doing the labor myself and not feel guilty about it.

Now, thats some serious water conservation. And guilt-free, no less. It makes sense. We need more of that here.

FWIW, i no longer use the sink. We (Ms skychief & I) agreed that brushing in the shower wastes roughly 160 gallons/month. (2 minutes X 2 gal/minute X 30 (days) X 2 of us) Not much at face value, but I figure we can save about 40 gallons of water (per month) by just brushing in the sink.

Im looking forward to our water next water bill.

In my neighborhood, everyone's gardeners come on different days of the week, so there are lawnmower and leafblower noises three or four mornings a week. It's very aggravating.

I moved to Southern California (just north of LA) about 2 years ago. During that time I can count the number of rainstorms with actual accumulation we've had on one hand. Probably the equivalent of about 4 actual days of rain. And of course with all the infinite wisdom of the environmentalists and politicians around here there's virtually no such thing as retention ponds to catch the rain water, it just flows straight to the ocean. Looks more and more to me like the lack of useable water in CA is a function of the cyclic arid climate pattern and piss poor planning by the people that live here.

But hey, on the upside - its sunny and surfs up!

Best thread pun so far

Urine is good for your plants, lots of nitrogen. Also good for keeping away pest animals, gotta keep your territory marked. Whizzing in the yard is just full of win.

I'm not so sure. I used the same spot to pee in repeatedly when there was snow on the ground & come Spring no grass grew there.

My sink is too high to pee into, or maybe I'm just too damn short. If the bathroom is occupado, I will pee outside, but only if it's dark. If it's not dark outside & I need to pee w/o the bathroom I use a bucket & then take that outside to pour into the treeline.
