Pet peeve: bass players who write "BASE"?!?!?!?

I ain't seen this on TB anywhere near as much as I did in my former life as a wannabe audiophile on AV forums (fora? Come on, fellow Latin students, help me out here.) I thought that it was ridiculous that supposed music lovers couldn't use the proper spelling of bass, seeing as how our receivers and pre-amps have controls labeled "bass", but misspelling it here might be even worse. How many of you have an instrument labled "Fender Precision Base"? Not many of you, I'd wager.

Then again, how many Craigslist ads have you seen for symbols, you know, those round metal things that drummers hit?

Sorry, it IS the wrong their. THERE is the correct form for the above usage. Don't take this to heart, rather take it in mind. I learn something new everyday too. :)

Ok, I apologise, go through life doing it wrong then. Don't learn a single thing ever again because it hurts your feelings. I'm sure your boss will overlook it if you ever have to write a report or communicate on a business level. Stagnation in life is fun. Good for society in general. :)

Well, I care. If I'm in the minority, fine. I would like to see people learn something that could serve them well. If that's drama to you, so be it. Some would call it sardonic irony. This is an evolved pet peeve spelling thread after all.

Agreed. People need to have a little fun and not be so uptight.There is no problem with correcting grammar, but things seem to turn nasty very quickly here.

Of course with that said, I now feel the need to correct you (just to keep in the spirit of the thread, you see, no hard feelings). You should have used capital instead of capitol in your last statement :)

Capital refers to a city which is the center of government, or has some special eminence.

Capitol refers to a building used by a legislative body. When capitalized, it is referring to the building where the U.S Congress meets.

One word...Relax! I was just kidding with the Grammar Nazi comment, I think it is important that people spell things correctly as well, but I can deal with it using humor. Nobody needs to get pissy about it.
