Phil Lesh's New Ritter Bass

I was at a 7/12 show of Phil's... It was probably the best show I've been to in awhile/ever. Check out the setlist on archive if you are interested. About 90% of the tunes were dead. Anyways,

he was playing his new Ritter bass. I was front and center, nobody was closer. The thing is a beast. It looks out of this world for sure. But like many have said, it looks less abrasive when Phil is playing it. I was on Phil's website looking around at pictures of his past few shows and the next couple of shows after I saw him. He is mainly playing the Modulus. It seems from the pictures, and my experience, that he sticks to one axe for an entire show. Like I said though, from the pictures on his website, it still looks like he is playing the modulus more.

Just like I said, he uses the modulus more over the past month or so since he's had the Ritter bass. He uses both though so in "CVille," or wherever, if you get to see him play his Ritter consider yourself lucky because .. hey ill say it again .. he still uses his Modulus as his main axe.

Don't get me wrong, my Modulus Sonic Hammer is my main axe (used it with Phil's keyboard player the night before). But all he touched was the Ritter that night. It's still ringing in my head. Man, I love Mississippi Half Step.

rofl. no i meant jens ritter. believe me, if i get phil to contribute here (if he doesn't already incognito, you'd be surprised at the folks who do :hiding:) i'd be more about his playing and experiences than i would be about his gear. but that's pretty funny :D

Almost every NAMM show, I see Jens, what a cool and wacky cat. Phil's bass is right behind Jens:

I saw Phil Lesh and Friends last winter at Sheas... My god did they put on a good show and phil's bass playing was awesome and all of his friends where great. At that time he was playing a modulus 6 string and he had his hollowbody on stage but he did not touch it one.

I understand that it was almost a year ago, im mostly gloating about how i got to see him lol.

Huh. I saw him play with a whole bunch of different friends...it was a few more years ago than that though...They all played pretty well too.

I've seen him play three times in the last 10 months or so and I like his sound with the modulus better than the ritter. The ritter has a more grindy, highend-y sound with not so much smooth bass tones. The ritter also disappered in the mix compared to the modulus, but it could have just been the sound guy :rolleyes:
